We use Veeam Data Platform to backup a number of on-premise devices, including VMWare VM's and physical hosts. We leverage storage we provide both on premise and in the cloud to ensure all mission critical data is backed up reliably and recoverable quickly. In today's IT world, ransomware is a when, not an if anymore, so having current backups you can trust is crucial.
  • Replication to multiple cloud storage providers
  • Easy to setup new backups
  • Instant recovery to VMWare is super fast
  • You still have to provide your own storage for on prem and cloud backups
  • No ability to have automated spin up and verification of backups
  • Not enough backup frequency options
It's well suited for companies that have primarily on premise workloads that either already have extra storage to use, or don't mind providing and managing their own backup storage. It's also lower cost since they're not providing storage or management of the backups.

For companies that want more automated testing of backups, things like spinning up backups of servers daily to verify functionality, it's not great, and I'd look at competitors first. In addition, if you want a fully managed backup solution that includes storage and management, this isn't really the product for you.

We use Veeam Data Platform to meet our regulatory compliance and business continuity requirements. We encapsulate all of our infrastructure using Veeam Backup and Recovery. This best of breed solution gives us assurance that our implementation will stand up to the challenge when called on. Having used other, lets say more user hostile products in the past, it's hard to think of moving away from this product.
  • Reliable
  • Intuitive/discoverable without extensive lab testing
  • Most configuration combinations WORK
  • Give me bootable media for building immutable storage from scratch
  • Linux backup proxy VM's, keep making these easier and better
  • Make it all linux based including management
Works great for medium/heavy on prem workloads.

Licensing for NAS leaves much to be desired. Backup licensing should be cheaper per TB than putting it in the cloud. . .

Lightweight usage is cost prohibitive.

We use Veeam Data Platform to backup all of our critical IT infrastructure. The Veeam Data Platform console is one of the best graphical user interfaces I have ever used. Veeam Data Platform supports backing up to cloud repositories and it is a breeze.
  • Restore Files
  • Restore entire virtual machines
  • Backup Copy to cloud providers
  • When jobs fail sometimes the errors can be very cryptic
  • Upgrading to new versions can be a headache
  • Requires a cluster of servers
If you want a stand alone backup solution that is very robust, I think Veeam Data Platform is perfect. In my opinion, if you need something to back up heavily guarded systems Veeam Data Platform may not be the best choice.

I use it to backup our critical systems, both physical and virtual. It always works has has never let me down.
  • Always working
  • Ease of restoring a backup to a virtual host
  • Easy to restore a backup to a physical host
  • Support
  • end user training
  • working with customers to know how to better utilize their software
Well suited for critical systems. you never have to worry about Veeam not working.

It is expensive, so for anything that is not critical, you may want to consider a cheaper option.

We leverage Veeam Data Platform to backup our critical virtual environment to an offsite location. We use the tools within the software to reduce recovery time and increase business continuity of our systems.
  • Keeps accurate backup chains
  • Does restores quickly
  • Easy to update and manage
  • In my experience, when backup chains have issues Veeam Data Platform support is mostly useless. Be prepared to rebuild your backup environment.
In my opinion, Veeam Data Platform is great for ransomware protection. Organizations can use Veeam Data Platform to create isolated and immutable backups, making it difficult for ransomware attackers to compromise data integrity.

I backup both VM and physical servers in our DCS environment, totaling 30. The mixed environment made managing backups difficult, whereas VEEAM made this easy and efficient. Being able to manage backups from one location, as well as create one-offs on servers too old / incompatible with networked solutions made this the best choice.
  • Ease of use
  • Data integrity
  • Versitlity
  • Licensing model could be easier to understand
  • Cost
Veeam shines in environments where you have a mix of virtual and physical hosts. In an all virtual environment, VEEAM is excellent and extremely effective. With physical boxes, you can manage the backups from the orchestrator, or use the stand-alone solution to create one-off backups or scheduled in scenarios where network access is limited.

In the organization, Veeam Data Platform plays a crucial role in ensuring data availability and business continuity. Given the complexity of our IT infrastructure, which includes a blend of physical servers, virtual machines, and cloud resources, we needed a comprehensive backup and recovery solution that could integrate seamlessly with our existing systems and our ERP. Veeam Data Platform addresses these requirements effectively, offering backup solutions for both on-premises and cloud data storage.
  • Reliable
  • Simple setup
  • Affordable
  • Complex Licensing Models
For organizations that have a mixture of on-premises, cloud, and multi-cloud infrastructures, Veeam Data Platform provides comprehensive coverage. In my opinion, this makes it easy to manage backup and recovery processes from a single pane of glass.

In our industry where downtime is extremely costly, Veeam Data Platform's Instant VM Recovery can be a lifesaver, allowing for minimal operational interruptions.

We are using Veeam Data Platform for our data protection. Our data is our Intelectual Property and Veeam Data Platform helps us create trustworthy backkups which we can test on functionality and which gives us the confidence that we can restore our data when needed. Although the Veeam Data Platform is very stable and reliable it is also good to know that in case of issues the support is fast and good.

  • Integration from Veeam Data Platform with Office 365
The backup of virtualized or physical environments is very good and straightforward. The management console is very easy to use and full vm restore, os single item restore, is also very easy to do. The seperate consoles for single item restores, like Exchange or SQL, are quick and simple to use.

I have been using Veeam B&amp;R for about 5 years and it works well. They improve its capabilities with every release and keep up-to-date with the platforms it backs up and runs on. The software is dependable and at a good price point. In the rare cases I've had to call tech support, my issues have been solved quickly. Overall a great piece of software with ever-expanding capabilities.<br>

We use VEEAM Data platform as a backup tool for our production and system virtual machines. Some of the business problems that the product addresses are: the prevention of data loss from accidental file deletion, always-on data availability and reliability, ensuring compliance with data retention and security policies. The scope really depends on the specific needs and objectives of our business such as the type and amount of data to be backed up, how frequent and the duration of backup operations, the location and format of backup storage, the recovery point objective and recovery time objective for data recovery and the level of automation and testing for backup and recovery processes.
  • Ransomware Warranty
  • Best practice analyzer
  • Direct backup to Object Storage
  • Data freedom
  • Recovery orchestration
  • Solution admin scheduling scripts need improvement, import and export processes for information and policies could be better
  • Interface and cluster environments could be improved in the future as they are using agent oriented interface
  • A complete Linux version instead of relying on Microsoft for management
VEEAM works amazingly with VMs with instant VM recovery, and built/designed for the virtual world, site replication for disaster recovery. Reporting is good but could be easier to setup, copy to tape interferes with normal backups, performance could be improved, ability to run on Linux would be a game changer

We use Veeam Data Platform to backup all of our on premise data from three separate locations. We use Veeam Data Platform to store our data at other sites of ours for redundancy as well as make it immutable from Virus and Ransomware corruption. We will also be testing the Veeam Community Edition to start backing up our cloud data from AWS and Microsoft as well.
  • Ease of use to create backup scheduling
  • Ease of use to restore data on the fly when needed
  • Immutable storage of data to protect against ransomware
  • Built-in functionality to backup cloud resources like 365
  • Automatic restore testing for audits
  • Backup sets directly to cloud resources like AWS S3 buckets
Veeam Data Platform seems to be structured on a cost basis for medium to large sized businesses.

I needed something to replace the Server Backup program which comes with Windows Server. The native Microsoft Tool works, but is basic and does not provide alerts if a backup job fails or succeeds. I also experienced other issues to do with the software such as fairly common errors with VSS Writers which would cause backup jobs to fail. It was frustrating having to manually check the backup system twice a day to ensure it was actually working. Cue Veeam. After a fair bit of research, Veeam was the company which came up the most often as being recommended and in use. Even better than other platforms such as AOMEI, Macrium, Acronis etc there was a community version with a lot of features and although it is limited to 10 workloads - it is full product and not a time trial. I found that there was a lot of supporting information and tutorials on the internet. I first installed it as a VM to test it's functionality and I am very happy to say it didn't disappoint. It is very quick, includes encryption and alerts me whether backup jobs are successful or whether they fail - it isn't often they fail. I have recently moved from the test VM to a physical device for the Veeam backup server and implemented it. This particular backup is used to save encrypted data onto a removeable device, which is my immutable backup. 10 stars!
  • Data backup time is fast - much faster than Windows Server Backup
  • Encryption of data
  • Multiple backup storage devices/cloud area types
  • Alerts/reports are clear and simple
  • Setting up for the first time will take time - possibly more setup wizards for jobswould help
The community edition is well-suited to my school environment as the school is relatively small and tight budgets make it hard to choose the appropriate product for the business.

If my school was to expand in the future, I would purchase the licensed version as the community edition would not allow enough backup jobs to complete. Additionally, the paid for version does include more enterprise features and would be more appropriate for a larger organisation.

I have been using Veeam Data Platform for years and it only continues to get better, Veeam Data Platform is very dependable and quick when backing up and restoring files and VM's. The interface is easy to understand, and has a ton of options. Software updates are frequently released to keep up with any bug fixes or newer platforms that it supports. I think it's a solid product for protecting VM's and Windows Servers/clients.
  • successfull Scheduled daily backups
  • restores individual files of folders
  • can restore entire Virtual Machine
  • I think the "Lab" interface is a little confusing when you want to test your backups, but that's the only negative thing I've encountered
  • The user interface could use some updating
  • Cost, can be more affordable
In my experience, Veeam Data Platform provides sufficient flexibility to perform backup data operations quickly and safely. It can deal with all types of data, works with all kinds of servers efficiently, and thus contributes to making the backup process more stable and effective. Scheduling allows for scheduling backups and repeating them with high quality.

  • File level backup and restore
  • Efficient and intelligent cataloging
  • Licensing - In my experience, poor structure, unfair application of instances, and impossible to calculate what is needed
  • CIFS backup from snapshots

Simple to set up and use. We currently back up our Hyper-V environment, three hypervisors, and about 30 VMs. Separate from the VM jobs, we back up about 10 TB of file servers. We utilize Replication on two mission-critical VMs for failover. We follow the 3-1-1 rule: three copies, one media type, and one off-site backup copy. This is accomplished alongside the GFS retention policy. Automatic weekly reports of job history helps keep everything in line, along with immediate notification of failures.
  • Backing up various workloads.
  • Backup copies.
  • VM replication.
  • File-Level or Machine Level restores.

We used to have a very fragmented data backup situation. Our desktops were not being backed up regularly, and our servers would use Backup Exec to a tape library. We weren't sure if our backups even succeeded with Backup Exec, and the cost to store large amounts of data with Backup Exec were high. We have an old install of Veaam for backing up certain VMs, but it had been neglected and the version was very old.<br><br>We decided to turn off Backup Exec completely, and invest in a subscription to Veeam so we could upgrade to the latest version. We now have all desktops and server backing up daily, and have integrated our tape library backups with Veeam, which are also automated now. We also have monitoring going with VeaamOne so we know when backups fail and can't react.<br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br>
  • Automates Backups
  • Provides visibility to backup health and storage appliance space
  • Writes data to tape for offsite storage
  • UI changes frequently...sometimes hard to find where features have moved
  • Didn't eject tape after writing to tape library...this has now been fixed
It's well suited to any environment where you have many devices requiring backup and would also like off-site redundancy. It may not be suitable for very small environments where the overhead to manage the system may not be justified for only a few machines.

I manage the infrastructure for a multi-location construction company. We use the Veeam Data Platform Backup and Replication software to backup our onsite point of sale and file share servers and high importance user machines to a centralized data server at our main office. The backed up data is then backed up again to an offsite server. We prefer to have an onsite solution and access to our backups for instances where the internet is not available. It can also be quicker to access this data locally than it would be to download it all from a cloud repository. When it comes to restoring a machine, Veeam Data Platform makes it easy and saves my department a ton of time. Also, the ability to pull only selected files is incredible, especially when users accidentally change, move, or delete files on the public file share.
  • Full machine restore from server
  • Guest file restoration
  • Ease of installation on the guest machine
  • Ease of connecting the guest machine to the server
  • The Backup and Replication program is a little slow to open on my server
For my particular scenario, Data Platform is perfect. It backs up my companies important information to a local host that is easy to access when we need it, but also backs that up to an offsite location in the event of a major catastrophe. And the guest file restoration is a godsend for when users get a little over zealous and delete or change something they shouldn't have.

We use Veeam for both on-site and off-site backups of our entire in-house VMWare environment data center. We have Veeam scheduled to back up our database servers every 10 minutes and several of our more important VMs every 2 hours. We also have a "daily backup" that gets all VMs each night. On top of these, we have a continuous backup running to an off-site location through a site-to-site VPN tunnel. Veeam support was fantastic in helping with some of the issues we encountered when setting things up initially. By using Veeam, we have saved dramatically on our IT spend: 1) After replacing our datacenter SAN and hosts, we were able to add some drives to re-use our old hosts as both on-site and off-site backup servers. 2) Doing this with Veeam allowed us to eliminate managed service and cloud hosting costs we had paid for years and instead implement our own off-site storage 3) I am now able to manage and prioritize backups, expedite restoring files or VMs when needed, and have greatly improved visibility into our backup environment.
  • Backup VM.
  • Snapshot VM.
  • Replicate continuously to off-site backup.
  • The UI could be a bit better.
  • The terminology used in the interface could be cleaned up or easier to use.
  • The continuous backup data could be better integrated into UI visibility.
  • Explanations for errors and failures would sure be nice... "Host discovery failed." What host? What failed? Everything looks fine.
If you are looking to implement a robust backup solution with configurations anywhere from daily to 10 minute increments, Veeam provides the tools to set yourself up with a reliable backup platform. They also give you the tools to use your own resources for off-site backup, which can make for huge savings whether you have your own secondary site or use colocation in another data center.

Veeam Data Platform is currently used to protect VMWare environment, both via VM backups and site to site replication. In addition Veeam Data Platform agents are used to backup data via agents.
  • Worry free VM backups (full and synthetic)
  • Scheduled replication of VM's for BCP purposes
  • Agent based backup of files and SQL data
  • Better management of adhoc VeeamZip backups would be helpful but its already pretty good
  • Application Interface could use a more modern facelift
For small to mid-sized businesses, particularly those with hybrid cloud (or those who are in the migration process) Veeam Data Platform can be your best friend. I have not used Veeam Data Platform in a multiple backup server scenario and am hesitant to recommend but the functionality is available.

We utilize the Veeam Data Platform extensively within our organization to address critical business challenges and ensure the security and availability of our data. Our use case primarily falls into Data Backup and Recovery.
Veeam Data Backup & Recovery software solutions is central to our data backup and recovery strategy. We use it to create regular backups of our critical data across various platforms, ensuring that we can swiftly recover in cases of data loss, hardware failures, or disasters.
  • Veeam Data Platform is its user-friendly and intuitive interface.
  • Exceptionally robust in safeguarding our critical data.
  • Veeam's help and support services have exceeded our expectations.
  • Changes have been made to the licensing model, and it has not always been clear to us how these changes affect our usage and costs. It would be beneficial if Veeam could provide more detailed and user-friendly information about licensing terms, pricing structures, and any modifications to ensure that users have a clear understanding of what is required and what they are entitled to. Improved transparency in this regard would help us effectively plan and budget for our data management needs and reduce any potential confusion or uncertainty surrounding licensing.
Veeam Data Platform shines in virtualized environments. Its ease of use and straightforward interface make it particularly well-suited for protecting and managing data in virtual machines. Whether it's backing up, replicating, or recovering virtualized workloads, Veeam's capabilities in this area are top-notch.
When it comes to data recovery tasks handled by IT teams, Veeam Data Platform proves highly effective. IT administrators can easily perform data restores, ensuring minimal downtime and quick resolution of data-related issues. But there are some challenges when it comes to delegating restore tasks to helpdesk personnel or non-technical users. The administrative interface could benefit from improved features for delegation and role-based access control to streamline this process. This limitation can make it less suitable for organizations that rely heavily on helpdesk teams for routine data recovery tasks.
