We recently implemented VEEAM to backup all of our physical and virtual servers. It addresses our auditor's needs.
  • Restores to virtual machine fairly quickly.
  • It sends us malware reports.
  • Talking to support has not been extremely helpful. Some technicians are not sure of how to navigate our issues.
It is well suited for backing up data and restoring it, but sure backup could use some attention. It is a good idea, but we have been having issues with it and support is not very helpful in my opinion.

We use it to back up servers at regular intervals and for on demand backups before performing upgrades to roll back from in the event of failure. We regularly test our backups and have had the "opportunity" to restore from backups numerous times and never had any failed recoveries. We've also run servers directly from their backup images and transitioned them, live, back to production.
  • Backups
  • Managing those backups/scheduled tasks
  • Restoring from backups
  • Running backups live from those backups
  • Software support is great; the few times we've ever needed them they've pulled through
  • A change to the interface for mounting then recovering individual files or folders feels clunky but it's the only complaint about the software. It works, the process just isn't as smooth as I'd like.
  • An inline product update from an update button rather than going to the Veeam page to download a new setup file would be pretty slick, not a deal breaker by any means though
  • It would be pretty neat to have an inline tech support data upload, provide a ticket number and have the support upload go directly to Veeam rather than taking that archive file and uploading it to the ticket via the web portal
We have a small deployment with a handful of physical hosts and two dozen or so virtual servers. It's been a perfect fit for us to manage all those backups and to restore entire systems from or even pull specific files/folders from a backup as needed if just a few things need changed/rolled back.

We utilize Veeam Backup and Replication version 12 in our organization. We also use Veeam Azure Backup and Recovery. We backup our on premises servers to an onsite storage appliance and Azure cloud. We backup our Azure servers to the Azure cloud. We are planning on purchasing Veeam O365 backup soon.
  • Unified backup solution using one console.
  • Many different restore options.
  • Many different backup options.
  • Console takes some getting used to.
  • SOBR is somewhat complex to set up.
  • Backups take a fair bit of time, but this might be expected.
Personally, I have had an excellent experience with Veeam Data Platform. Immutable backups are an important feature that we use. The ability to restore an on premises server to the cloud is also a great feature. I had some issues getting email notifications to work, but I was able to figure it out.

We use it to back up all of our VMWare Virtual Machines to 3 separate backup repository. This allows up to restore files that have accidentally been deleted. The main business problems the product addresses, though, is disaster recovery and ransomware protection. We have also used Veeam Data Platform to migrate VMs from 1 set of VMWare hosts to another.
  • Ease of recovery with file level restores.
  • Application aware backups for Exchange and SQL servers.
  • Ability to set backup windows and schedule backups based on other backups finishing.
  • Slightly confusing license management.
  • Sometimes has delays when loading file level backups.
  • No ability to update from within the software.
Veeam Data Platform is ideal for doing full virtual machine backups from VMWare to an external repository. It also supports cloud backups. I like that it has the ability to easily backup to external hard drives for air-gapped backups. Natively support using Linux for backup proxies and immutable backups. Also can be used for bare metal backups with additional license.

We use Veeam to replicate our hosts locally and geographically replicate data for redundancy.
  • Automation.
  • Ease of use.
  • Rolling back old files.
  • Make restores more easier to navigate.
  • Download/Support Portal could be more user friendly.
I currently use this software at several locations and look to add to some other sites soon to ensure we are covered in any event offering data loss.

We use Veeam Data Platform to store and secure data on our servers. It enables us to run multiple data sets over time, with consistency checks and hot restore tests. We use it across our entire infrastructure, covering all our servers, including test servers, worldwide. A new ransomware verification module has been deployed, making it even more secure. We also use the cloud mailbox backup module.
  • online backup
  • hot restore point
  • ransomware check
  • immuable backup
  • compression
  • deduplication
The product's strength lies in its ability to verify the integrity of backup data and its ease of use. You can run several backup jobs on different media.daily reports ensure that all jobs are running smoothly and correctly. The best backup software on the market

We use it to create backup images of our virtual servers to a local NAS and restore them (or, more rarely, individual files) should we encounter any trouble.
  • Highly configurable
  • Dependable
  • Backups
  • UI update interval (like charts, copy speed update) is a bit slow.
  • Starting backups takes a while, doesn't really explain what it's doing.
  • Backups fail/warn for a lot of misc reasons, so a lot of time is spent diagnosing these (like the dreaded "Failed to index guest file system. VSSControl: Index failed").
I would recommend Veeam to somebody with a similar environment who needs to take backups of their VMs or even physical servers and be able to restore those directly in the event of a server crash.

We use it for backup and backup copy for a Hyper-V environnement.
The free lifetime version is a great opportunity to test it for company with low I.T. budget.
The backup copy functionality is very useful.
The backup explorer is easy to use to restore quickly a simple file.
  • The free community version
  • Backup hyper-V
  • Compress backup
  • Backup copy fonction.
  • adding a group of usb disk easier
  • To have the possibility to back up VmWare workstation player like a Hyper-V!!
  • Have an option to buy Veeam definitely not at month.
Good point:
A good back up software with huge documentation!
Not easy to use the first time without help.
The free community edition, very usefull.

Bad point:
No lifetime licence...
The data limitation when you backup a nas... no comment -_-
No backup up of a wmware workstation player environnement.

Veeam Backup & Replication allows us to backup our data in a secure & logical way, giving us peace of mind that should any files get accidentally deleted, or if there is an issue with a virtual machine, we have the means to restore to when it was last working correctly.

We also link in our backups with Veeam Cloud Connect, for secure, off-site backup, as part of our backup procedure.
  • Provides a comprehensive, yet easy to navigate user interface.
  • Lowers workload with automated backup scheduling.
  • Easy integration with Veeam Cloud Connect for secure, off-site backup.
Veeam Backup & Replication has been tried & tested in the Education sector & I personally recommend it.
Whilst it's slightly more expensive than some of the other backup competitors, it's not the most expensive & I feel you really do get your moneys worth.
Especially with the flexibility of the various add-ons you can integrate with it as a platform.

We mainly use VEAM for backuping our infrastructure but also doing our business recovery plan.better distribution of costs: we use the product in a paid version for some of our infrastructures and the free/community version for others
  • Restoring files from inside Linux VM from backup
  • Replication with low bandwidth
  • Make backup immutable for all NAS storage (Synology for example)
  • Support for PROXMOX Hypervsior

We use Veeam Backup and Recovery mainly for server-level and file-level data protection. Being able to simply mount a backup image in order to recover a file or validate that operating system level backups are working as intended is monumentally important and gives us back valuable time that lesser backup solutions cannot. Veeam also makes it insanely easy to keep copies of backup data offsite at our other locations and the in the cloud with integrated, automated jobs that do all the work for us. I also love the fact that we can backup on one platform and restore to another (like HyperV to VMWare). We plan on using that feature in the future for a migration. Veeam support is top notch as well. Any support tickets I have get addressed by support techs that know the product inside and out.
  • Immutable backups to protect against ransomware
  • Easily integrate jobs that create copies of your data offsite or in the cloud
  • Explore backed up files from the image
  • Test OS level backups straight from the backup image
  • I honestly can't think of anything
Veeam is great for proving to auditors that your backup are trust-worthy. When you can start up a virtual server from the backup file running in memory in under 10 minutes, it is pretty darn impressive. We have also used it to take a full take a backup of a production virtual server while it was running in under 5 minutes, so we could restore it (off-network) for testing against production.

We are backing up our whole virtual infrastructure around the world. With Veeam we can use several other devices to save our backups, like tape or external ransomware-proofed storage devices. Even saving backup in the cloud via "Veeam Cloud Connector" is possible and not bad. You can just create real backup jobs to certain devices and then copy the backup over to another media without touching your live infrastructure again.
  • Application-based restores are great & quick.
  • I like the idea of having several states of backups on different devices.
  • Copying existing backups to different types of media without touching the actual infrastructure is great.
  • Creating different types of jobs sometimes gives you a headache.
  • The way of creating a retention policy is very hard to understand at the beginning.
I have used some other backup products in the past (like Symantec BackupExec, DELL vRanger, Acronis...) but none of them is as good as veeam is. The guys from Veeam are really doing a great job developing more and more features everytime they release a new major update. So I really like the product and its features (even when its harder to understand as with some other products, because you have way more features here), but I dont like the support. Luckily we have a great IT regional supplier who is helping us everytime we're having issues using Veeam, but every now and then they can't solve issues, so we have to open cases with Veeam. Unfortunately I cant tell one single case which was solved by them... Bottom line: 1. the product is great 2. get a training when starting to use it 3. most important: get a great IT supplier having Veeam experience or even better being a Veeam partner.

Currently I utilize Veeam Data Platform as a redundant backup system for all physical servers in our environment, and am in the process of shifting our VMWare environment over to it as well. In total, it'll end up handling around 125 servers.

Primarily I'm leveraging it to fill the gaps in our backup systems; previously there was another platform in place, but it was long since defunct by the time I was hired, plus our current VM backup system is going away at the start of the next year.

Ultimately, once the VMs are transitioned, I want to use the redundant server to round out our DR setup.
  • File-level restore is quick, reliable, and much simpler than other platforms I've used
  • Replication is extremely simple to configure and test
  • Agent setup for user endpoints and subsequent backup storage is incredibly simple
  • Cloud repository configuration is extremely straightforward and well-documented
  • My main gripe with Veeam Data Platform was resolved with the release of 12, which was cloud backup repository addition being extremely restricted in 11
I primarily have experience with Veeam Data Platform at a medium scale, so midsize businesses and MSPs. I feel like Veeam Data Platform is extremely well-suited for creating a local backup or DR system for a smaller business that can't necessarily afford to host everything in the cloud, but can also potentially support onsite storage with a cloud repository to better make things immutable and resilient.

We can do several things with Veeam Data Platform, from daily cloud full, incremental or differential backups, to an instant recovery of full systems. This product is reliable in case of disaster and has a broad protection to automate across virtual enviroment, cloud, physical and NAS. You can scale it with ease and build your disaster recovery plan and testing.
  • backups / snapshots
  • replication
  • cloud DR
  • instant recovery, they can do it faster.
  • more friendly GUI
  • provide training
a scenario where Veeam Data Platform is well suited for is in case of ramsomware because of the trusted immutability, you can recover exactly the stuff that you need anywhere safely, backups are unable to changed or delete, its integrity stays intact. Nowadays is critical having an immutable solution for the backups because ransomware attacks are rising.

We utilize Veeam to create nightly backups of all of our server infrastructure as part of our layered approach to backing up our data. First we utilize a different product to create real time replication between our datacenters. Then we utilize Veeam to create nighttime full/incremental backups and copy them down to a local storage device in an immutable state. From there Veeam allows us to replicate those backups up to another storage device in the office where the IT staff are based out of so we can copy those files to offline disks. We then rotate those offline disks in order to airgap them and store them in safes offsite. Veeam is an essential component in our data backup strategy because it allows us to create immutable backups locally and then airgap our offline backups so that no matter what type of incident happens we have a way to fully recover our data and server infrastructure and getting running again as quickly as possible.
  • Backups of virtualized infrastructure.
  • Creating replication of backups between datacenters.
  • Creating immutable backups for data protection.
  • Incorporating in physical server backups alongside virtualized server backups.
  • Haven't been a fan of recent licensing model changes
My experience with Veeam has been in a more traditional role where we back up our virtualized infrastructure and select physical servers and store them in central repositories. This is Veeam's bread and butter in my opinion and I haven't found a better product to do this role. I recommend Veeam for anyone who need to traditionally backup their servers and data and store it offsite or at another datacenter. Their options around immutable backups and replication to other datacenters have been solid value adds over the years.

Veeam Backup & Recovery makes it easy for us to do both onsite and offsite backups of our VM infrastructure. As an added bonus, Veeam makes it easy to cover the ransomware angle through its support for immutable backups. Veeam is highly flexible and reliable. I would easily recommend it to any company that wants backups that they can rely on.
  • Reliable backups
  • Immutable backups
  • Various backup destinations
  • Support could stand to improve by a bit. The level of support has seemingly lessened over the years I've been using it.
  • It needs to be able to report backup repository statistics better when XFS and ReFS are in use.
  • It could be a little better about cleaning up after itself (old logs, etc.).
Veeam Backup and Recovery is well suited for backing up any virtualized infrastructure, be it VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix, etc. The product does great at offering many different backup options. With its hardened linux repositories, you can be confident your backups are safe and secure locally, but you can still do those ever-important offsite backups/replications through Veeam Cloud Connect as well. Veeam is very versatile.

We use Veeam for server backups. Having global offices, backup without over reliance on the cloud is difficult, however Veeam enabled us to have both on-site back up and have back ups replicated to different countries to ensure we have a resilient IT infrastructure. We currently use it to make backups of virtual servers on site, then replicate those backups to a central location in our head offices.
  • Backup replication
  • Site failover
  • File and folder recovery
  • Console UI
Being one of the leaders in back up and disaster recovery, it's no surprise that Veeam excels in its field. In a traditional on-premise environment, its capability is second to none for backup, site failover, file and folder recovery, and restoration abilities. The specific version of veeam we use is however less suited for SaaS like 365.

We use it to backup our servers and user data. We have both onsite and cloud storage. It is a critical part of our disaster recovery plan. The ease of use and value for cost has been a driving factor in our long relationship with Veeam. We continue to be customers in the years to come.
  • Intuitive interface
  • Quality, accurate reporting
  • Ease of use
  • Solid updates
  • Sometimes if there is an error solutions take a fair bit of research.
It is well suited as a server backup. We have used it for both physical servers as well as virtual servers. It saved us a ton of money over VSAN in our new environment. My only concern is that the Backup solutions like Synology will hurt Veeam as they are more of a one time cost for the life of the device.

We use Veeam to protect around 100 VM and 50To with data deduplication, hardened repository, GFS archives and tapes.
Our goal was to retain over 6 months of granularity and in a short backup window.
With Veeam we are able to achieve multiples backups every 4 hours at 3x deduplication in less than 10 minutes windows.
  • Performance of backups
  • Clarity of the UI
  • Alerts and reporting
  • Tapes management
  • deduplication and compression
  • Management of agents fleet
  • Reporting of agents
  • Performance of agents
  • More virtualisation plateform support (standard KVM like proxmox or opennebula, xen...)
The Veeam data platform is easy to install and use.
But moreover, it's easy to understand its spirit and behavior. You are not surprised when things happen and can easily manage any events.
It has great performance that save a lot of time and storage

It works as intended, relatively easy to setup. Recovery process is relatively simple and quick. There is some advancements required for the mac end points however, the agent isnt very user friendly or informative. Also the process of moving from one backup server to another has proven difficult while keeping current backups for the mac end points.
