It has given us an easy to operate and maintain backup system that allows us to backup both virtual machines as well as physical servers. Since it has the ability to be disk based instead of direct to tape it has allowed us to backup our entire infrastructure faster than was possible with just using a tape system. With this speed increase we are also able to provide an hourly backup on some of our critical systems. Also with the "Instant Recovery" it allows us to get a VM with an issue back up and running as fast as possible.
  • Instant recovery helped us migrate VM's off VMware to HyperV. We know we can go the other way if needed.
  • Instant recovery allows restores of machines faster than previously possible with older versions of Veeam Data Platform.
  • Backup to disk allows faster backup times allowing critical systems to also be on an hourly backup schedule.
  • Would be nice if the linux bits did not complain as much about wanting to be immutable.
  • Would be nice to have a backup method for the main backup server to be able to restore from a data location like any other machine.
  • It would be nice if things would be a little more integrated into one client vs. having a client for backup, client for veeam one, enterprise manager, etc.
I am not really sure what to say other than Veeam Data Platform works the way it should. Have not really had many major issues with it. It has allowed us to recover from misconfiguration, accidental deletions of VM's, Missing file recovery to name a few. We have no plans to try to find a Veeam Data Platform replacement.

We use it to backup our data.
  • Backup all servers
  • Store long term sectioned by weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly
  • Backup developments
  • Would be nice as backups are stored you can select the speed at which it is backed up.
  • Would be nice to select different speeds also changeable by time of day.
  • Do you have compression?

We use Veeam for our backup software for our credit union. This ensures we have data recovery and redundancy in our backups for our domain controller, file server, and overall network including all staff data.
  • Easy to use
  • Consistently works
  • Industry leader
  • Dealing with support over licensing issues
  • Dealing with support over company name changes
This is my first experience with Veeam at an organization and I've been very pleased with it as a whole. It definitely comes in handy as a reliable backup solution for our credit union and integrates well with both physical and virtual system. We are a fairly small "shop" at around 33 employees and this product fits the bill nicely and is very reliable and easy enough to use.

Disaster Recovery, backups, cloud backups, vmware. We use the product to backup VMs at the VM level as well as SQL backups for our datacenter. We backup AD and backup a file share or two.
  • restoring VMs
  • restoring individual files from full VM backups
  • restoring AD objects
  • overall view of retention
  • error details from within the dashboard rather than logs
it's overall the best backup/DR software I've used so it's appropriate and well suited for just that. I know there is a lot more that it can do so I need to spend some time learning more.

It is used as the primary Backup software for our VMware Virtual Server Environment at [...] California and Oregon [...].
  • Very Easy to Use and Implement
  • Very reliable restores
  • Reliable backup execution
Veeam Data Platform is the best product i have ever used to back VMware ESXi VM's

In my opinion, it is mediocre at backing up Physical Machines. I does not have any client side deduplication or inline deduplication.

We use Veeam Data Platform Backup & Replication for our daily backup needs. It provides with a relatively easy method of performing data restoration from file level up to complete machine restores.
  • Backups performed to local storage
  • Backups performed to cloud storage providers
  • Quarterly restores for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance testing
I think it is well suited for compliance testing to make sure restores are performed successfully.

We use Veeam for Weekly incremental and full backup of our core data.
  • Backup jobs
  • Expansion to Azure blob
  • individual file restore
  • The time it takes to remove a backup no longer available to the system
  • Managing Archived backups that are no longer on-site
  • A better way to get access to old backups
Veeam is an all around backup solution that manages the basics of a backup strategy. I have used plenty of backup solutions and Veeam handles them very well.

We use the Veeam Data Platform to create back-ups (and sometimes restores) of Virtual Linux and Windows systems in VMware.
  • Automatically create back-ups of our Virtual Linux and Windows systems.
  • Restoring back-ups of Linux and Windows systems.
  • Showing the progress of a running back-up.
  • Restoring one or some files of a virtual Linux system
  • Killing a hanging back-up process

  • Veeam has an intuitive interface and makes backup extremely easy.
  • Ransomware protection is excellent.
  • Backups are fast and efficient.
  • Licensing could be done differently. We preferred the perpetual license as it allows for one time purchase instead of annual payments.
Veeam works on any platform and is well suited in all scenarios in our environment. We are a baremetal environment/infrastructure and Veeam works very well without issue.

Veeam is used to back up all of our Physical and Virtual Servers both to removable disk and cloud storage.
  • Unattended backup of both Physical and Virtual machines on a full - incremental schedule
  • Copied backups to cloud storage
  • Easy to restore whole machines and individual files.
  • Sometimes old restore points don't automatically delete so disk space can run low
Especially good for a mixed environment of both physical and virtual machines and also operating systems

Veeam Backup is very stable and reliable. Veeam provides information about updates, innovations, training courses, etc., and the support is fast and effective. I didn't have any problems with updates, if an update brought a performance loss, this was fixed very quickly with a patch (from v11 to v12). The tape support works without any problems, I never had a problem with test restore from tape, the restored files are always error-free. The performance when writing and reading is top. The condition is intuitive and requires little training. For backing up computers outside the domain, I use “Veeam Agent for Windows” with USB hard drives, which I also recommend for private computers. In general, I am very satisfied with Veeam, use it in the systems I administer and am happy to recommend it.
  • Full backup, backup to tape.
  • Recover deleted files.
  • Recovery of SQL or Exchange objects.
  • Possibility to hide unused options.
Systems virtualized with VMware or HyperV.

We use Veeam as one component of our backup and disaster recovery strategy. Veeam is used to perform daily (and sometimes, depending on the application, hourly) backups of our Virtual Machines as well as several bare-metal servers. We transitioned over from BackupExec as we moved to a more virtualized environment with more data. Veeam allows us to have our data ready to spin up at a moment's notice, as well as provide the ability to store backups on another form of media which we can take offsite, in addition to the live backups. We experienced a ransomware attack several years ago, and Veeam helped us get back to business quickly and without too many headaches. The product works as advertised and doesn't require specialized hardware, although specialized hardware is able to run it. We currently only back up Windows VMs and bare-metal servers, but is also expandable to backup everything from Salesforce to Microsoft 365.
  • Veeam effectively and successfully backs up and restores VMs and physical servers
  • The Veeam interface is extremely easy to use and understand
  • Rolling out Veeam to virtualized and bare-metal servers is easy to accomplish
  • Restores of files or entire VMs is easy to accomplish
  • Immutable Storage / Hardened Repository helps protect against ransomware
  • More options for cloud storage providers
Veeam allows you to restore individual files or entire VMs quickly and rapidly. We were able to restore our phone system after a ransomware event in under two hours, which helped us get back in business quickly and efficiently. As long as storage is sufficient, it's easy to have multiple restore points and differential/incremental backups for rapidly changing data like SQL databases. Veeam's support is also top-tier, easy to access, knowledgeable, and friendly.

Veeam provides the following interesting features that every IT professional faces:<br>1. Disk and tape Backup for both physical and virtual environment.<br>It provides image or application awareness level backup. We use both of Veeam for daily and full synthetic monthly disk backup(GFS) in StoreOne and then save to monthly tape backup. Data size is about 50TB with GFS to save lots of storage space. It is quick and safe. However, physical server backup costs lot because each 500GB disk space will consume one Veeam license. So it is really good for virtualization environment. <br>2. Quick migration during data center relocation.<br>We used to migrate 100TB of virtual machines between data centers without any issues. Suggest to have more Veeam servers for better performance. <br>3. Replication data if you don't use SAN block level replication.<br>3PAR StoreServ storages were used for remote copy group replication. So Veeam replication did not use for our bank but it worked. <br>
  • Seven-year data retention
  • GFS backup to save space
  • Encryption backup
  • Quick restore
  • It does not protect as many apps as other does
  • Agentless for physical server as physical backup is not working well
  • Higher price
  • After 2020, Technical support response time gets slower
  • Clone function is plus
Good for small % middle size but not the fastest solution.

We use Veeam for backing up all of our on site servers. The biggest reason for these backups is to have a fail safe from possible attacks or potential hardware failure. We also utilize Wasabi as a cloud based backup solution in case something were to happen with our backups saved on site.
  • Immutable Storage for on site Backups
  • Easy integration with Cloud based storage such as Wasabi
  • Test Restores to ensure the backup process is working.
  • Veeam could have their own cloud backup solution.
Veeam is a great solution if you are looking for data retention within your company or if you need a backup solution that you don't need to worry about failing due to the application itself. Veeam gives us immutable backups with is highly desired in a tech world where attacks are common and encryption is necessary.

  • Easy of taking backups
  • Restore is pretty simple for both windows and linux
  • The performance is back /restore is pretty quick
  • It has to improve linux restores both file and vm
  • IBM i back ups are not possible at this moment
  • Backups for VMware is ultimate but for Nutanix needs improvement
It's an ultimate solution for virtual infrastructure and needs improvement for physical servers and cloud platforms.Overall its a wonderful solution compare with IBM solutions or Netbackups

We use Veeam to backup our entire organizations data that cannot be easily retrievable or restored otherwise. This includes shared files and documents, entire VMs of domain controllers and other servers and even a few various full computer images for machines that need to be set up in a very specific way. Not every employee in a non-profit industry such as this is incredibly tech savvy. Couple that with the fact that as a non-profit, we generally cannot afford to keep all of our technology on the cutting edge, sometimes things happen and files get lost, or deleted, or corrupted. Veeam has made it a breeze for me to restore those files, systems or virtual machines with the click of a couple of buttons. This saves potentially weeks or months of work being lost due to a small mistake or a large catastrophic failure. And with the replication feature, it's easy to save multiple copies of the backed up files, as well as keep multiple iterations of the backups going back a specific amount of time. This software has saved my life (and quite possibly my job) dozens of times over the years and I am extremely pleased at having made the decision to move to it when I did.
  • Virtual Machine restores. Whether a full over-write, being moved to a new location, or a live restore, it's quick and easy.
  • Ease of browsing for individual files that may need to be restored due to a minor mistake.
  • Very easy to test restores to make sure everything is still working.
  • The UI isn't terrible, but it could definitely be better.
  • The initial opening of the software takes several minutes, and could potentially be optimized for faster loading.
  • In-program tutorials to help walk new people through processes that can get complicated.
If you need relatively easy to setup and forget backups to go to multiple places, this is the best bet, hands down. If you need to get into things a little more complicated, it can get tricky as you will most likely have to turn to the internet to figure out exactly how something needs to be done.

We use Veeam to backup our clustered hyper-v environment for both the township and the police department. With both instances we are setup to backup locally to the windows Veeam appliance located on-site and the appliance is set to replicate to a linux appliance setup off-site. The windows appliance is setup running hyper-v so that we can do restores for both testing backups, recovery and test updates. the linux appliance is configured with immutable backups for an extra layer of security.
  • Surebackup jobs run great for testing backup integrity
  • Restore processes are very simple to pick a point in time to recover files
  • notifications work as expected and provide the reassurance to know things are working
We don't use it for cloud backups (yet) but everything we use it for with our on-prem appliance as well as the linux off-site runs very well. Restores for both VMs and file system restores are very simple to use. Configuring the backups and the sure backups jobs to run on set scheduled is as easy as you could want or expect.

We use VEEAM backup and replication to backup our whole VM environment at the school district. It has been a cost-effective way of managing everything in single plane of glass which has been very useful to us.

  • great customer service
  • currently, I am really happy with the product.
If you have a virtualized environment, this tool is essential to keep everything under one plane of glass and the functionality and helpful ness of the tool are impressive in itself. It is not daunting to setup and is quite simple.

A properly deployed Veeam environment is incredibly powerful. We use Veeam for backup, backup verification/testing (SureBackup), replication, and archival of our physical and virtual server workloads (as well as select critical workstations).
Veeam’s “bring your own hardware” approach allowed us to repurpose existing hardware during our transition to the product, and it’s wide range of supported hardware allowed us to gain features like direct-san without becoming vendor locked.
  • Diverse supported hardware / vendors
  • Excellent support and documentation
  • Expanding the product with new features
  • Some features are overly complex to get enabled, like SureBackup
  • Some features are under-documented, like Hardened Linux Repos (great community content is out there though to fill in the gaps)
  • Some issues have persisted for years, like Nimble-generated replicated snapshots failing to associate with the parent / source VM
Veeam is well suited for protecting physical and virtual server workloads. Properly configured, it has very low overhead and high performance.
Veeam is ill-suited to environments running unsupported hypervisors, like Proxmox. Hope support for that is added someday.

I've used Veeam for over 13 years. I was first introduced to it while working for an MSP to backup all of the virtual machines for ourselves and our customers. I had previously been used to a very popular tape-based backup software and I couldn't believe the difference in technologies. When I moved from an MSP into the role of an IT Manager, the first software I introduced was Veeam for the physical infrastructure and eventually the virtualised infrastructure. It's easy to use and extremely reliable, every update brings better stability a new features as opposed to introducing bugs and issues.
  • Virtual machine backups
  • Instant recovery
  • Updating the software internally, rather than finding the external links, downloading etc
I would recommend to anyone that is looking for fast, stable and reliable backups

We use Veeam primarily for backing up our legacy on-premise VMware cluster. <br><br>It provides us with means to generate cloud, local and tape backups to support different restoration and retention requirements.
  • Ease of use
  • Reliability
  • Broad feature availability, without basic features being locked behind licensing
  • Native Scale HC3 support
  • Moving full tape licensing from Enterprise -> lower licensing brackets
Veeam + a CloudConnect repository + tape drive provides on-premise, cloud & offline backups with a relatively small investment. The fact that it can do ad-hoc backups from fileshares on top of that is a plus.

We use Veeam Data Platform for the Backup and Restore and Monitoring and Reporting pieces. We use it for Backups of our entire environment, modeling the 3-2-1 model. We use a Linux hardened repository with Immutability to protect from Ransomware. We have about 220 VMs we protect with our Veeam backup jobs and backup copy jobs. We maintain a 7-year retention. We will be moving the backup copy jobs to the cloud in 2024. We use the Monitoring and Reporting features to troubleshoot alarms and rightsize our systems.
  • Allows for SQL databases to be restored elsewhere for DEV team to use for testing
  • Provides immutability option to protect against Ransomware
  • Provides Monitoring and Reporting tools
  • Would like to be able to File Level Restores from data stored on a VVOL
  • Would like to be able to perform Quarterly backup copy jobs for GFS options
Veeam Data Platform is well suited to protect VMs and SQL jobs. It is not appropriate if you need to do file level restores from a VVOL. Veeam Customer Support is among the best in the industry, very quick, friendly, easy to use, and direct to the point. Highly recommended!
