Veeam Data Platform serves our need for maintaining backups of our systems and facilitating the recovery of those systems should a Disaster Recovery situation arise. The wide variety of recovery options allows us to recover full systems down to individual files that a user accidentally deletes or becomes corrupted.
  • Elastic recovery to recover only what is needed whether it's a single file or a full system/servers
  • Allow for immutable storage
  • Integration with virtual platforms and some SAN providers directly
  • Allow for a Backup and Replication to occur in one job
  • Allow for further flexibility with data retention such as allowing some servers in a job different retention than others or changing in retention over time. Example is backup daily for 7 days, then store a weekly backup for 8 weeks, monthly backup for 13 months, etc. all within the job.
  • More communication about platform updates. Many new features come out and we are not aware until a little further down the road.
I think Veeam Data Platform is a great platform for almost all businesses. The only businesses that I would not recommend it for are small businesses that may not have an IT staff to manage the solution or don't have enough infrastructure to justify the expense of an Enterprise grade solution. In those cases I would recommend either a managed solution or a simple backup solution.

I think Veeam Data Platform is awesome for Virtual Server Backups, Physical Server backups and also MS o365 backups. Veeam Data Platform helps us move servers from virtual hosts, restore files, whole Virtual Machines reliably and quickly. Instant Virtual Server restore is a life saver when a windows patch prevents a system booting, or some software upgrade goes very wrong (and you didn't snapshot a vm in VmWare). We also use vCenter essentials, so we do not have live migrations; Veeam Data Platform definitely helps us here by allowing us to move servers around. We also started using Veeam o365 backup for more than just our sharepoint repositories. Now that we finally moved to hosted o365 email we can back that up as well with Veeam Data Platform. We also added in a rotating backup for offline backups as a just in case last resort restore option. It was simple for us to just add the offline rotating backup to our backup plan.
  • Instant VM Restore is the most clutch feature.
  • Offline rotating drive consolidated from normal backups is great.
  • o365 Cloud App account backups is a very nice feature
  • More of an environment issue, but better support for sizing and speed problems.
  • Live migrations status bars...seems like the final 1 to 2% functions take the longest as I watch for them to finish. I know the step we are at, but it takes so long as you are waiting for the last bit to complete (VM RAM and system state) . I know they do not know the exact sizing, and it is the last 1 step of the 99 it did, but I get antsy
I use it for Virtual Servers and also a physical server, and a hyrbid backup of a specific location (folder) in a VM like a physical server. The physical agent method isn't the most intuitive, but definitely doable. Agent updates and version issues sometimes arise, and was simple to fix 2 of the 3 times it was an issue.

Veeam Data Platform Services backed up locally and offsite
  • Easy to use and intuitive
  • Flexible for any configuration
  • SQL storage and access of database easy through SSMS
  • Easier to handle SO repo's
In my experience, well suited is adding to a new server and configuring the local configuration, then adding a scale out repo as well.

We use Veeam Backup & Replication Community Edition for testing purposes. We have VMware and Hyper-V servers and create tasks for backing up virtual machines hosted on those servers. We are doing this for 5 VMs and monitor the time it takes to backup, then we restore them and check them to see if the software works as expected; and it does.
  • Backing up VMs hosted on VMware and Hyper-V
  • Restore VM to original host and alternate host
  • Using VeeamZip to obtain an image of a VM for archival purposes
  • Allow the creation of schedule task for VeeamZip
  • Faster start-up
  • Allow backup of older VMware versions, like 5.5
We have tested Veeam Backup & Replication in a LAN and the performance was good. In our environment, the servers work 24x7 and there was no noticeable drop in performance so, in scenarios where the infrastructure is up and running 24x7, this is well suited. We have not tested doing a backup from another site so can't tell if it is well suited across the WAN.

I use the community edition in my firm. It works like a charm. It's the easiest way to make backups of my virtual machines.
  • make affordable backups
  • easy and quick recovery
  • good api documentation
  • runs only on windows s.o.
  • hungry for ram
  • a bit expensive
In little and middle datacenter where windows is a must... Veeam is all a IT manager need.I've tried a lot of competitors, but Veeam B&R wins in almost all of comparisons. I've a Microsoft SQL Server for accounting and product lifecycle management. I restored a replica taken in production environment during work hours without problem of db consistency (data after the replica are gone... but wasn't a big problem) and the software return to function in less than 1 hour.

The use of Veeam Software is mostly for the backup of bare servers and workstations, with the possibility for versioning and the use of deduplication.
It's very simply to use and the most import part is that the recovery works
  • Restoring Capability
  • Deduplication
  • Easy
  • cost
  • immutable backups against ransomware
  • weight, it's uses SQL Server
The Veeam Software is versatility in nature, it could be use standalone, at home, for backup up the personal computer to an external storage device.
And it could be use at very large enterprise with great volume and workload of backups

We use Veeam Data Platform to help us with our backup and security strategies. With recent updates and new features like immutability backups, Veeam Data Platform is not just a backup application. Still, it is a security application that helps us maintain our data and infrastructure safe against threats and malicious agents.
  • Using immutability repositories
  • Easy to use backup copy jobs
  • Backup jobs using Cloud repositories, like AWS S3 buckets
  • Some improvements using DataLabs. There are some issues when using resources outside the Veeam backup network (remote site for example).
The most use Veeam backup capability here in our environment is to protect our workloads and data in backup repositories with immutability. This feature helps us a lot to maintain a secure environment against threats like ransomware. Recovery capabilities: There are a lot of ways to recover data and workloads, like using instant recovery (for VMS, Database Servers, NAS...).

Besides normal server backups, one of the most useful aspects of Veeam is the ability to use the prior server as backup hardware. Replication jobs ensure a working copy of the server. This in conjunction with the backup files being off-sited to our location, we have a complete BDR solution.

The lifecycle goes like this. When a server is replaced with new hardware, the old hardware becomes the backup. Seeing as we HAAS most of our clients hardware, we benefit from much longer hardware lifespans.
  • Offsite backups
  • Onsite replication
  • A Vmware linux appliance preloaded with Veeam B&R would alleviate Windows issues.
If done right, Veeam is a BDR killer.

  • The fast recovery capabilities are fantastic.
  • Data security.
  • Secure Backup & Recovery for Your Hybrid Cloud.
  • Create malware-free backups thanks to automatic scans with trusted malware detection.
  • I can't think of anything now. It has almost everything that I need.
It is very easy to implement and easy to use.

For a test environment I needed to do backups every day to prevent data loss. The setup was easy to understand and the documentation helped me a lot. With the community edition you can't use the same source workstation twice. And i only wanted to backup two disks and that separately, it didn't work so I backup the whole workstation..

It is our main backup and recovery system. We backup 17+ VMWare servers in whole every day and they are stored on local disk, copied to a 16-tape autoloading tape system, and then copied to a hosted off-site internet storage vendor. All of it done automatically with minor interaction needed unless there is an issue.
  • File level restores from VMWare image
  • Automated backup across multiple locations and media
  • Reporting of completed backups and notification of failures
  • Upgrades across new versions could be smoother. Upgrades between different server hardware made easier and not require hours of copying old backups would be even better.
  • More information on all the options in the program readily available as you are trying to set up the system without having to do an internet search to find the best choice or syntax
  • I would really like their online repository setup to be a lot more user friendly.
For its few faults, Veeam has been a solid system that works incredibly well in our environment. I have seen very few others that can produce better results without requiring multiple replication servers or cloud hosting costs. I have yet to find another system that better suits our system and our data in the same price range.

I am used to backup 10 Virtual Machines on Hyper V to an external HDD. Backup runs each afternoon. Very easy to set up and configure. The only downside is the RAM requirements using MS SQL Server. For just 10 VMs, I'd have thought a more straightforward file-based database would have been sufficient. Before upgrading the server recently, I had a scheduled task to start and stop the services as needed.

I am backing up VMs. I've struggled to configure the Office 365 backup, so I gave up.

We have been using Veeam in the company for many years. We needed a product that would allow us to backup our virtual and physical machines. So Veeam Backup and Replication was evaluated and chosen. It is a very good product, very good. We have integrated it with vmware vsphere. We have full visibility of all the machines and can quickly save them to Veeam Backup and Replication and restore them if needed. We needed a product that would allow us to restore virtual machines quickly, or just restore individual files. Veeam Backup and Replication answered our needs. We have it deployed on two separate sites in our city. Everything works perfectly!
  • Simultaneously save multiple virtual machines at a time
  • Fast and efficient individual file recovery
  • Replicating virtual machines on other vmware vphere nodes.
  • Saving individual files for many years.
Veeam Data Platform Foundation is suitable for medium- to large-sized companies. In our case, it is a very good product for the use we had to manage hundreds of virtual machines. Perhaps in very small companies it might cost too much. In any case, I recommend trying the product regardless of the size of the company and evaluate its use.

Currently I use Veeam to do a daily backup of our EHR server, as well as maintaining replication at 15 minute intervals.
  • Maintaining backups with restore points
  • Consistently performing replication on a set schedule
  • Notification options
  • Need a way to schedule individual days/times to skip backup/replication along as exceptions to the normal schedule
This works great for my needs. Currently using it for one server. Considering using it to manage replication for the rest of my virtual machines.

Used for doing backup, replication, and offsite storage of virtual machines. Using both the Hyper-V and VMWare platforms. We have a virtual machine running the Veeam management, then keep local backups on a NAS attached via iSCSI. Those backups are copied to both an offsite location as well as to AWS storage.
  • Ease of installation/configuration
  • Reliability of backups
  • Integrations into cloud storage providers
  • Better ability to read logs when there is an error
Veeam works very well for virtualized workloads on their supported platforms - only really used VMWare and Hyper-V. When a physical machine needs to be protected, it works well and integrates into the backup console.
Not sure how much I would use it to back up a NAS, as the licensing is quite expensive.
Veeam might not be great for companies with VMs running really old (unsupported) operating systems....but there is probably something else going on outside of Veeam!

Veeam provides an all in one backup appliance for Hyper-V and physical servers. Veeam Backup and Replication powered daily, hourly, and CDP backups for all servers within four data centers globally. The ingress of all servers into a single platform with egress to almost limitless destinations is the best feature of the product.
  • Hyper-V Guest Integration
  • Instant Restore
  • WAN Acceleration for offsite backups
  • Better management around second backup location jobs
Any environment which is a mix of virtualized and physical workloads with client devices which are needed to be backed up. Veeam has one of the easiest interfaces to learn and consume the various systems into one easy to use platform. Portability when testing and recovering from backup is also key.

We currently use Veeam Backup and Replication to perform daily backups and replication of our critical production servers. In 2018, we moved to the Veeam platform after a fatal server crash that Barracuda failed to remedy and the loss of 30 days of transactions that had to be manually re-entered when the Barracuda appliance yielded inconsistent backups that prevented us from a speedy and successful recovery. Unfortunately, Barracuda support blamed an incompatibility with the Microsoft VSS Writers that their team acknowledged a known issue with their backup agent that they did not have a solution for. Luckily we were able to fix this ourselves otherwise the data loss would have been much more critical that it already was. We provided them with the steps in how we were able to correct the incompatibility in hopes that they would provide that to their other clients that were less fortunate.
  • Consistent Backups
  • Consistent Replication
  • Fast restoration times
  • Easy file level recovery
  • Advanced reporting features
On a business level, I cannot think of any reason where Veeam would be less appropriate. Whether you are a small size business or a large scale enterprise, the price point cannot be argued with. I have used multiple backups platforms from Windows backups, to Barracuda, to Datto and I prefer Veeam for the reliability and ease of use it provides.
