We use it to backup our servers and user data. We have both onsite and cloud storage. It is a critical part of our disaster recovery plan. The ease of use and value for cost has been a driving factor in our long relationship with Veeam. We continue to be customers in the years to come.
  • Intuitive interface
  • Quality, accurate reporting
  • Ease of use
  • Solid updates
  • Sometimes if there is an error solutions take a fair bit of research.
It is well suited as a server backup. We have used it for both physical servers as well as virtual servers. It saved us a ton of money over VSAN in our new environment. My only concern is that the Backup solutions like Synology will hurt Veeam as they are more of a one time cost for the life of the device.

Backup and DR, offsite immutable backs, Nutanix, and VMware.
  • Backup
  • Reporting
  • Restores
  • DR Recovery options.
Integrates with a lot of different hardware platforms, Nutanix, VMware, Cloud Products, decent support, as well as an active support community forum. Backups are effortless and fast and have yet to have a restore job fail. We've been with Veeam for almost a decade now. Some of the cloud features have been slow to arrive.

We use Veeam's Backup and Recivery as well as their Orchestrator product and that allows us to do things we did not think were possible in an application that is mainly a backup solution. We can plan and execute full backups and restores of our large environment to local, near-line and cloud without a complex web of other applications. In my experience, Veeam has taken a simple concept and created a simple solution at a reasonable price point. This platform has saved us from self-induced mayhem as well as large scale catastrophes multiple times. We believe it is one of the better solutions out there and simple to work with to boot.
  • Simplicity. It is easy to configure, deploy, and manage large scale deployments
  • It is a time-saver. By automating some of the restore testing we can verify that backups will work without having to do full restores.
  • Reporting is great and allows us to produce documents that satisfy management and auditors alike.
  • Veeam One is a great product that can replace other mature monitoring applications and Veeam doesn't seem to promote it as much as they should.
  • DR restores from cloud back to on-prem are not as automated as we would like them to be. It is cumbersome to have to bring back VMs from cloud manually.
  • Progress bars and time estimators are not accurate. Many times we have processes that sit at 100% for a long time before they actually complete.
The best scenario for Veeam is an Enterprise level backup that has a decent sized backup window. Because Veeam requires snapshots from VMware, it can cause a bit of a hit performance-wise, so making sure that you are optimizing the time that backups are taken is crucial.Another piece is the ability to query storage for snapshots as well. If you happen to have one of the many supported platforms, Veeam can grab snapshots from storage and therefore avoid the VM stun process that occurs when you have to snap a VM directly in vSphere. The one caveat I would caution with Veeam is the fact that it may not scale well when we are talking about large data sets and a large number of VMs. We have plenty of backup capacity with 500 VMs, but I am not sure it would work with something much larger, like 5,000.

We needed an easy backup & replication solution with solid reporting, that scales very well. I've been implementing Veeam for over 8 years now. At our company, we started at the branch office level, and then scaled up globally to our datacenters. We needed a standardized solution that was easy to onboard new sites, new servers, perform BC/DR testing, and cross-train employees on the technology. Coming from a fragmented set of backup solutions, this was an easy win to ensure we had a solid BC/DR plan in place for all of our infrastructure, at all sites.
  • DR orchestration
  • BC/DR testing
  • Great UI/UX
  • Reporting
  • P2V of workloads to VMware
  • Datacenter migrations between vCenter clusters/environments
  • Failure events should be more verbose in the summary reports.
  • SNMP documentation for monitoring via an NMS (SolarWinds/Nagios) should be more in-depth.
Veeam Data Platform is a robust and reliable solution that offers comprehensive data management and protection services. Its user-friendly UI and powerful features make it easy to manage, backup, and restore data, ensuring data availability and business continuity. Veeam Data Platform supports a wide range of applications and platforms, providing flexibility and scalability to meet various business needs. Moreover, its advanced backup and recovery capabilities, including Azure/AWS integration and automation, make it an ideal choice for businesses looking to enhance their data protection strategies in a hybrid cloud. Additionally, Veeam has a strong reputation for excellent customer support and continuous innovation, ensuring that users have access to the latest technologies and features.

We use Veeam to protect around 100 VM and 50To with data deduplication, hardened repository, GFS archives and tapes.
Our goal was to retain over 6 months of granularity and in a short backup window.
With Veeam we are able to achieve multiples backups every 4 hours at 3x deduplication in less than 10 minutes windows.
  • Performance of backups
  • Clarity of the UI
  • Alerts and reporting
  • Tapes management
  • deduplication and compression
  • Management of agents fleet
  • Reporting of agents
  • Performance of agents
  • More virtualisation plateform support (standard KVM like proxmox or opennebula, xen...)
The Veeam data platform is easy to install and use.
But moreover, it's easy to understand its spirit and behavior. You are not surprised when things happen and can easily manage any events.
It has great performance that save a lot of time and storage
Agent management could be better and more friendly.

We use Veeam to backup our on site servers and our staff laptops. Witht he importance of data integrity and confidence in the backup process, Veeam has assisted us in reaching these requirements. We do weekly backup recoveries to test the process and we have not had any failures to date.
  • Backup
  • Data recovery
  • Staff device backups
  • Mac platform
It works as intended, relatively easy to setup. Recovery process is relatively simple and quick. There is some advancements required for the mac end points however, the agent isnt very user friendly or informative. Also the process of moving from one backup server to another has proven difficult while keeping current backups for the mac end points.

We use Veeam Data Platform to backup all of our internal servers. It makes backup and restoration extremely easy, and it definitely gives us peace of mind. We have never had any issues when doing server restoration. It is a very solid product.
  • Ease of use within the platform
  • Encryption of backups
  • Ease of restoration
  • Reliability of backed up data.
We have had very good luck with it in our virtual environment. I don't have a lot of experience doing physical backups on systems, but from what I have read it is pretty straightforward.

We used to use Veeam Data Platform to backup our critical infrastructure like servers and VMs. It is a great tool if you have plenty of on prem storage. I'm sure it has a lot of great features if you either have someone on staff who knows it inside and out but if you work for a smaller company like me and wear many hats in your job it's harder to know if you are using it to its full potential. We ended up switching to an alternative cloud based back up product as it seems to be more intuitive.
  • Backups are easy to setup
  • Policies are simple to assign
  • Recovery is easily accessible
  • Lots of tools but not very intuitive to set up
  • Couldn't figure out immutable backups
  • Updating to newer version is kind of a chore
It's a great option if you have the time to figure it all out and get it setup properly. It's not very expensive and is a good solution for backups and data retention. If you don't have a ton of data you need to backup or potentially restore you'd probably be better off with a cloud based service.

We use Veeam Data Platform to automate our server backups and replication. It allows us to set all of this up, including failover plans, and we don't have to touch it again unless a server needs to failover to our DR site, or we need to restore it from a backup.
  • Server backups
  • Server replication
  • Built in failover plans
  • The user interface
  • Quicker support on issue tickets
  • More detailed error codes for some of the generic errors
When needing to back up, and/or, replicate many servers it is well suited. It also allows you to connect many different VM host infrastructures, cloud infrastructures, etc.

It would probably be overkill for companies that don't have the need for a large amount of servers to be backed up, replicated, etc.

I use Veeam Data Platform to backup multiple VMs on multiple servers to a NAS and then out to a cloud repository for another level of protection. Veeam Data Platform is very easy to setup and to administer. They also have very good technical support. To say the least, I am very happy with Veeam Data Platform. It would have been nice if I had found them (or they found me) years ago but I am glad we are partnered now.
  • Backs up VMs
  • Moves backed up VMs from NAS to cloud backup partner
  • Monitoring / reporting of successes and failures of all actions
  • Sometimes the error messages are a bit ambiguous requiring tech support to clarify.
  • Not every scheduled backup works 100%. That said, I let it roll as the following one typically will.
I do not know about less appropriate but as far as well suited, Veeam Data Platform does an outstanding job with VM backup and restoration. Early on I had need to rebuild a server with four VMs and I was relying on Veeam Data Platform to come through and oh boy did it! Restoration was only a few clicks and quicker than I could have ever hoped for. If I had Veeam Data Platform / this version anyway some years ago, it would have paid for itself tenfold. My message to anyone with VMs: Get Veeam Data Platform!

Veeam Backup & Replication is in use at the 3 schools I support to backup the Hyper-V servers on a rolling basis. The ability to specify multiple backup targets, both local rotating USB hard drives and to a network attached storage device (NAS) gives us a sense of trust and reliability in the backup process. Having daily emails notifying of backup success/failure keeps me on top of everything even when i'm not on-site. I have had to use the recovery process several times after a failed Windows Update (print nightmare anyone?) or when there is an accidentally deleted employee/student files. The recovery process is very pain free and easy to use whether you are recoving a single file or an entire Virtual Machine. I have no bad things to say about the product, it's rock solid and the community edition is a free offering. If I was in a large enterprise with many servers, I would rollout the same backup solution without a second thought.
  • Rotating USB Hard Drive Backups
  • Backups to network storage
  • Ease of recovery
  • Snapshots in Hyper-V for instant recovery
  • Replication of VMs between physical servers
  • None
I think with the product offering from Veeam Data Platform. they have a very solid platform for backing up all sorts of workloads. they have products for backup of local data to remote cloud servers, local servers, local storage & network storage. They also have products for the other direction, for backing up data stored on remote cloud services down to local storage. Just because it is in the cloud doesn't mean you shouldn't back it up locally.

We use Veeam for our backup and replication workflows, including disk and tape backups. Veeam helps us maintain secure and scalable backups, meeting our Federal and State requirements. Veeam provides and easy and intuitive way to maintain our backup infrastructure.
  • Immutable backup storage
  • Instant recovery
  • File level restores
  • Licensing is expensive, in the new age of virtual machines
  • File shares should not require more licenses than a standard backup
  • Instant recovery from AHV to vSphere does not clone CPU cores correctly
Veeam is appropriate for large scale on prem backups, but the community edition lacks many of the necessary features for small-scale operations.

Backup and Replication for Shore Term and Long Term Backups and for our Disaster Recovery Replications. It helps keeps our servers backed up for recent days and long term months. It helps us migrate and spin up those Disaster Recovery Servers in a Test Sandbox environment and production environment for real disaster events.
  • Keeps our data safe
  • Keeps our data mobile
  • Keeps our data accessible
  • Could be faster when it comes to replication, it can always be faster
  • Could be cheaper, cheaper is always better
Great for backups and replication. Not great for instant recovery. It can take time to get the backups to spin up.

Veeam gives us confidence in todays risky world of data breaches, malware etc.
  • Recovering Active Directory data in the attribute level
  • Tiered backups to disk, cloud and tape
  • Security inside the product including MFA
  • More support for different application level backup and recovery

I use it as backup and recovery application. We have also used it as a tool to replicate any additional drives being added to the actual server as a testing mechanism. As an accounting firm, we are a potential target for ransomware attacks and Veeam ensures us a reliable backup.
  • Quick backups
  • Accurate recovery
  • Speedy recovery
  • Virtual data testing
  • Speed of image taking could use improvement.
  • The amount of stress put onto the server when taking snapshots is noticeable at times.
  • Enabling the creation of multiple snapshots at one time.
Very well application for backup and recovery. It has allowed us on multiple occasions to roll back to previous backups smoothly. We have had situation where a certain important data was purged by mistake. Veeam's backup copy allowed us to retrieve the lost data. We use it for our primary backups and it does a great job. While it isn't perfect, nothing is, it really is the best on the market and makes setting up an intricate backup system to meet the needs of our business easy. We have it performing daily backups to 2 different NAS servers as well as a USB rotation. It then will copy this data to an Archive NAS for long term retention. Lastly it replicates our VMWare VSphere server to our data centre for disaster recovery situations.

The cost is well worth the services it provides.
  • Replication of VMs to secondary locations
  • Backup jobs to different locations
  • Instant restores to test backup integrity
  • User interface could use a refresh
  • More detailed errors for failed jobs would be useful. instead of having to find and open log file.
  • Grand Father system could have more granularity and options.
Small to medium sized business will be well suited for this application. We are a smaller organisation so I cant speak for enterprises but the functionality it gives us is perfect.

It is great for backing up VM's and physical servers, and storing those backups to different locations. We even use it for replication to give us DR capability at our datacenter.

Recovery of the backups is easy and can be very quick (2-4 minutes) in the case of 'Instant Recovery' and publishing the backups is a simple process.
