I use the system to backup our VMs. I constantly do security tests for return and replication. I am extremely satisfied with the solution and intend to extend our use to more systems. I'm frequently looking for training and reviews to learn about features and updates to improve my usage.

I honestly love Veeam. They provide enough options of configuration for specific job functions, along with the ease of use you'd expect from an enterprise solution in today's day and age. The ability to install the console software anywhere you like is quite handy, and the new features getting added all the time prove to be consistently helpful. If you have VMs or Physical Hosts to back up there is really not a better product out there. I check my backups once a week, and they are always successful. What more could you ask for?
  • Excellent, easy-to-use console.
  • Application-aware processing of workloads.
  • Granular file restoration & instant restores.
  • Ability to segment jobs for specific goals & timeframes.
  • One-Time Full Backup to selected storage - provide an option on a normal job to allow a single Full backup that would let you choose removable storage such as a portable hard drive. This would be great for cold storage retention.
  • Make a wizard that would allow you to relocate a backup chain if your destination storage is getting full. This is currently only done manually.
  • Create job templates, so if you need to create another similar job you can save that config as a template rather than "cloning" a different job.
Veeam is incredibly well suited for backing up Virtual and Physical hosts. I have had to back up many different types of workload with Veeam and it has always done a great job of handling servers & virtual machines of any OS type. Veeam is less appropriate for backing up NAS devices. Many companies are utilizing devices such as a Synology for bulk file/project storage, and it is very costly to get the licensing required to be able to protect these devices. The workaround implemented at most places is to create an iSCSI connection to these storage devices so they are seen as a Windows volume rather than directly backing up a NAS.

I decided it was time to look for a replacement for a backups solutions which we had been using for many years (BackupExec). Additionally I wanted to find something that would better support our virtual environment and potentially be available as a purpose built hardware solution. Veeam can support this from what I have read to date. Additionally I needed to try it before making a decision to move forward. The community edition has allowed me to do this and works well.
  • Backup VMs with compression
  • Restore the VM and re-register with vCenter - perfectly each time.
  • The interface can be confusing for those of us who dont like to read manuals
Based on the level of effort which was required to install and configure Veeam I am going to look at migrating our backup strategy to include Veeam as a solution. The setup is very easy and operationally it is extremely simple to set up the backups. I am anxious to try the replication and instant recovery options as well.

We currently use two versions of Veeam in our organization. The first is through our MSP which backups more than a dozen virtual servers and several physical servers. The second instance of Veeam is the Community Edition in the IT sandbox development area backing up test systems and sandbox virtual setups that we keep out of the production network. Prior to Veeam, we had no constantly monitored backup system that had an ease of use for restoring files or virtual servers. The biggest problem Veeam solves is giving us backup and restoration of our Exchange mailboxes with extreme ease.
  • The simplicity of backups and restorations of files, servers, or virtual endpoints.
  • Backup of individual mailboxes in Exchange and the data within allowing ease of restoration.
  • Backup of Active Directory components such as computers, users, etc.
  • The restoration process is not easy to understand at first by opening the file explore wizard. The general wording is a bit confusing here.
Veeam is perfectly suited for our needs of backing up large quantities of virtual servers, bare metal servers, and LOTS of user data that exists on all of our medical systems and file systems. Veeam makes this transparent and simple to backup large amounts of data that I can recover information from seamlessly. At this time I haven't found a situation in our enterprise where Veeam isn't well suited!

We use Veeam Backup & Replication to backup our servers and virtual machines. With VMWare, if you want to use replication, you have to buy 2 expensive licenses, one for each server in the replication cluster. With Veeam Backup & Replication you can use the free VMWare license, as long as you don't exceed the amount of machines allowed. For smb this will usually suffice.
  • replication, meaning keeping a VM synced with a copy on another server so that you can easily swap between them when one crashed
  • backup, that obviously includes differential and incremental
  • file based restore
  • I wish that the program would be able to troubleshoot errors on its own and fix them.
  • Maybe, prepare a cup of coffee :)
Veeam Backup & Replication will give you security that your data will remain accessible no matter what, as long as you set it up properly. Don't rely on a single backup locally, rather take an additional backup home with you, or store it in the cloud. If you're looking for a backup solution that plainly copies the data over to a second location then there is no need to use Veeam Backup & Replication. Just run a simple copy paste job with the task scheduler. Veeam Backup & Replication is for advanced backup and for streamlining the process.

I am currently using Veeam to backup several Windows servers and desktops. As the work we do requires design and customer interaction, we run backups hourly to minimize any chance of data loss.
  • Provides an offsite copy
  • Allows for longer retention on cheaper storage
  • Provides an alternate restore point
  • I would like to see the ability to delete job info. I do a lot of test runs, etc and would like the ability to remove these as needed.
[This software can be used] in any business similar to mine where data loss needs to be minimized.

A fantastic backup solution that helps us to retrieve data when it is needed. It enables us to keep backups on-site and off-site for disaster recovery, including duplicated tasks. I found the features and reports to be rather strong. It's not difficult to practice restores. I've never required vendor help to use or configure Veeam Backup & Replication - it works great and has excellent documentation!
  • Storage Integration is a great plus with vendors like HPE Nimble, IBM, and Infinidat but requires the Enterprise Plus license.
  • The ability to restore to Active Directory, SQL, Exchange is very easy with the software as well as Replication and Recovery Testing with SureBackup.
  • One of the most appealing features of this backup solution is the wide range of platforms it can backup. You can backup any VmWare or Hyper-V virtual machine depending on the license purchased, but it also comes with a client that can be installed on any platform and can backup files at the file level.
  • For small businesses, it's a tad pricey up front.
  • The download has several gigabytes, which is quite big for backup software in my opinion.
Veeam was simple to set up, simple to use, and recovering complete Virtual Machines or even restoring things at the file level is quick and simple. Veeam is so simple to use that even things that appear abstract or difficult are actually rather simple to configure. I use a plugin to connect my Veeam appliance to my physical storage in order to coordinate backups, site-to-site replication, and build up a virtual tape library. I completed all of this in a single day, and my backups began and ran properly on the first night. Some of the Veeam errors are cryptic, and I wish they made more sense right away when you see them so you could figure out what went wrong, but Veeam assistance is amazing, so I can't complain too much.

We have a multi-terabyte volume (6tb and growing daily) of marketing images/drawings/3d assets that is difficult to manage just due to the size. We were able to set up a NAS volume quickly and use Veeam to keep it backed up daily, and are keeping 14 days of recovery points live on this NAS unit. Was easy to configure and get working right away.

I haven't used it for a long time yet, but I find that its NAS / Cloud backup functions work very well for high capacity volumes. Was originally recommended to us for a cloud storage solution, but we wound up using a NAS solution, and it works well for that purpose.

We use Veeam B&R to protect the integrity of client data from destruction and comply with regulatory needs based on industry. Whether the client's server pool is virtual or physical, Veeam allows us to backup/replicate at a rate that matches our client's needs. If a machine goes down, we can spin up a virtual instance of the machine on the B&R appliance. It is a very flexible tool. Some clients use a completely on-premise model, while others use a hybrid of on-premise and cloud storage. Replication of virtual machines to cloud storage is quite straightforward. I have used this in real life. One client's data storage was taken down by a power company equipment explosion which created a surge that blew out several essential pieces of equipment in the data center. Luckily, we had a Veeam appliance in a separate, unaffected area and were able to spin up a replica that was only 10 minutes old in less than 30 minutes. Everyone kept working until we were able to have the storage array repaired. Then we just pushed the data back to the array and were back to normal. Staff only had to re-enter 10 minutes of work. A big save.
  • Instant recovery is my biggest seller.
  • File level recovery
  • Ransomeware protection
  • Configuration of some types of inventory can be tricky until you get used to it.
Really fits well in SMB environments.

At Spitfire, we develop and maintain software. At any one time, three versions are under maintenance and we require VMs suitable for building each and another set of VMs for QA and testing. This adds up to a lot of VMs, with a need to be able to restore an entire VM. Of course, we also have standard infrastructure: AD servers, gateways, storage. Our old backup solution was taking far too long to run each night. Veeam gets the job done in minutes
  • Entire VM backup with minimal IO
  • Tiering of backups to AWS S3
  • Restoring a single file in minutes
  • Licensing has change 3 times in 3 years
  • Editing a backup job is a bit tedious
  • Hard to know the status of S3 offloading
Backing up a large number of VMs, some mission-critical, some far less critical. Veeam does not waste much time on VMs that have been fairly stable, so our backups tend to run in under an hour. Restoring an entire VM or a single file is both quick and painless

Backups are plain and simple. No miss and very little fuss. Veeam allows us to deploy a backup solution to a number of customer environments and integrates well with our VMware hypervisor. Veeam gives us lots of flexibility with who has access and its ease of use allows us to trust our less skilled admins to perform simple tasks.
  • Easy to use and understand interface
  • Alerting and monitoring of the backup infrastructure
  • Error reports and knowledge base links for troubleshooting.
  • More detailed insight into failure reporting. Often I see a job will "fail" but all the objects succeeded.
  • We just recently discovered encryption options, wish these were more prominent in the GUI.
  • License renewal should be in the B&R software not Enterprise Manager.
Hypervisor environments with lots of virtualized servers. Windows file servers or other file storage solutions. SQL servers and databases as well as Active Directory servers. The application-level backups are excellent. Replication I have found less useful overall, but very useful in migrating servers between connected hypervisors

In my current environment, we use Veeam Backup and Replication in order to back up our production and sandbox virtual machines. We have been using Veeam as it's a very user-friendly backup solution to set up and use. As we needed a tool that centrally manages all of our backup schedules and jobs, Veeam gives us that and more. With Veeam I am able to see all of my backup jobs easily, organize and schedule them. Veeam also makes restoring from backups a breeze. Many times we have VM's that get tarnished during OS update testing, new application testing, or just average everyday wear and tear. Our normal process includes deleting a corrupted version of the VM from our host and simply restoring it with ease using Veeam. Another great selling point of Veeam was that it was a tool I could easily teach to my other Admins. They were able to pick it up with ease thanks to the user-friendly UI and descriptive explanations of what all the features do. Their support is stellar and always willing to lend a helping hand when we have technical issues. Finally, alerting after jobs complete successfully or fail is a huge help.
  • Veeam's Back up Job Creation Wizard makes it foolproof when setting up backup jobs.
  • With Veeam it is very easy to restore from a backup. Veeam does not make it confusing when trying to select which backup is going to what host or location.
  • Veeam also integrates very well with different storage options. As I have a mixed environment here with different storage mediums.
  • It is very hard to find issues within Veeam but one point of improvement could be the error logging and reporting. It would be nice if that information could be displayed within the Veeam console and not output to HTML.
  • In the future, I would like to see Veeam incorporate some type of cloud application where I can see my backups from any site.
  • It would be great if Veeam also had a mobile app to track backup jobs and make quick changes if need be.
In companies with technical landscapes that have little to no virtual environments, Veeam might be a little bit overkill as it would be easier to just back up single servers without it being managed by another server. However, for companies that are just starting out and GROWING their virtual environment, Veeam is a great must-have. As companies switch to more VM-based workstations and VM-based appliances it's very important to have those backed up to ensure disaster recovery. Veeam alleviates any stress surrounding backups and makes it a breeze to perform recovery. It's a tool that provides real peace of mind as there are MINIMAL steps required to restore from backup. Similarly, there are minimal steps needed to create a backup job. Once your backups are completed, you can sit back and relax knowing that everything will be accounted for.

We use Veeam to back up our virtual machine, as well as the Hyper-V host. Veeam has been an invaluable tool in retrieving data and ensuring data is being backed up. It truly provides peace of mind for our organization.
  • Easy to use interface that makes sense
  • Option to utilize backup copy job
  • Utilization of a domain-less server

  • More intuitive first time installation.
  • Data Deduplication should be easier to implement for Client Workstation Backups

We use Veeam for all of our critical company data backups. Veeam Backup and Replication is a versatile solution that allows us to manage all of our backups from a simple and easy-to-use interface. It is feature-rich and multifaceted and at the same time easy to set up and configure your backups. Outstanding product and great value for money.
  • Setup and configuration is straightforward and wizards are very helpful.
  • Does not hog resources on host machine and is very efficient in processing backups.
  • Very flexible software, tons of options for backup infrastructure and methods.
  • Awesome support team, responsive and competent.
  • Would like to an option to manage your backups from a web portal someday.
  • Sometimes errors messages for failed backups are too ambiguous and hard to research a resolution for.
  • Console can take a while to load sometimes, minor inconvenience.
We have a mix of physical and virtual machines and Veeam Backup & Replication helps us manage both of these types of backups with ease. The configuration wizards help with setting up the backup jobs quickly. I especially like how they made the interface simple (you only see what you need) and they guide you all the way through your job creation. I think it is well suited for a small/medium business like mine since it allows me to set up and monitor the backups without relying on expensive third-party support. When my users need a file restored, I can get it to them in minutes. I have not yet encountered a scenario in my business where this product is not well suited for backups.

We use Veeam to back up all of our VMs for archiving and for disaster recovery. We can also use it at a more granular level and restore even singular files on a machine, or create a second copy of a machine to do a test with instead of trying it on the production server.

  • Ease of use when restoring
  • Integrating with VM Clusters
  • Integration with Windows or NetApp can sometimes be problematic
  • Complicated to set up some backup scenarios

We can start virtual server replications quickly and easily. Thanks to its flexible structure, we can back up many data storage systems. Thanks to the ease of management, we reduce the time for users to adapt to the management interface.
  • Backup, replication, and failover operations can be easily configured.
  • Disaster and disaster test scenarios can be applied simply.
  • Platform-independent working flexibility is a big advantage.
  • Community support and trial opportunities make it easier to install and learn the product in demo environments.

Veeam Backup and Replication is used to back up our entire virtual infrastructure and a handful of physical servers using the Veeam Agent. With Veeam's application awareness we are able to quickly restore individual items instead of full servers. We also use the Lab functionality to perform quarterly restore testing to confirm the backups are reliable.
  • application awareness
  • automated recovery testing
  • replication - other products in the same space have better RPO/RTO
  • SQL backups, DB stun is an issue
  • immutability, restrictions on when and where it can be used
From a user perspective, the product is very easy to use and is solid. We have used it for several years with very [few] problems and it does what we need it to do. We use Veeam backup and replication to take daily backups of all our virtual and physical servers at our business. We use Veeam B&R to protect all the company data by backing it up to external hard drives and also using Veeam to upload the data to online repositories as well to keep us protected in multiple ways.
  • It creates quick and encapsulated backups to multiple locations
  • sends alerts to you via email after backups complete so you know the outcome
  • walks you through how to setup your backups easily with wizard based interfaces
  • They could make it simpler to connect your online respositories
  • they could give you automated ways to confirm your data is restorable
  • giving alerts when you local storage locations are almost full would be nice
Veeam B&R is excellent for small and medium-sized businesses who want to backup safely to multiple locations without breaking the budget. Using it in conjunction with something like Wasabi online storage makes it quick and easy to set up. Veeam is not a great option for bigger enterprises [that] have lots of data or need real replication to a failover site, there are more robust options for that.

Veeam is utilized for us to manage retention-based copies of our critical data sets for on-premise data (file servers, SQL DBs, and whole virtual machines (Windows)). We also utilize it to back O365 data to Azure blob storage. Some data sets are protected multiple times per day if the RPO dictates. Veeam solves compliance retention for our Bank plus allows us to help users who may have an operational impact when data is removed accidentally.
  • Reliable scheduled operations.
  • Easy upgrades to stay current on features.
  • Browsing backups for restores by Helpdesk or non-Admins.
  • Reporting and data analytics in Veeam is poor unless you purchase VeeamONE.
  • Client is thick and might be better if it were web based.
