We have tested backup and restore with Veeam and everything worked as expected. Have moved a VM from host to host and worked fine. The storage used was less than 50% of the original VM so the compression is good.

We do use the copy function with our backups. This is to provide additional data security by copying the data to a separate location when the primary backups are stored. These copies have also been used in the past for sandbox and DR testing.

We have actually found Veeam Backup & Replication's ability to copy data to be very limiting. We would prefer if jobs could be set up to copy data, whether daily or weekly, from one location to another along with checking for changes in this data so nothing is over written nor does it waste time copying items that have not changed. We have had to go back to relying on MS Robocopy and/or Xcopy to perform these needs.

The most important process of the backup system is actually the control of the backup, which is always forgotten or lazy. So when you make a backup, you can't go back to it when needed. You must also do this on every backup. The data verification feature of Veeam Backup & Replication product eliminates this problem.

We have configured Veeam to perform a SureBackup job after every backup, which will automatically fire up the backed up VMs (directly from the storage they are located at) and perform several tests to ensure they are recoverable and will boot up. In addition to this, we also have the ability to leave those backups running, so we can log in via a console and test performing updates and other maintenance tasks, all without creating a copy of the VM on our production environment, nor having to worry about touching the production VM.

The moment we complete our testing, we tell Veeam to shut down the environment, and it reverts the backup to the state it was prior to the SureBackup job.

This alone has made things tremendously easier - as we can now test maintenance and updates for applications, and once we feel confident in the installation process, we can perform the tasks against the production VM. I can't tell you how many times we've encountered application patches and upgrades that would've taken us down for at least a day waiting on the vendor - whereas now we can test and seek help from the vendor of the application without our users going without the program.

We have used Veeam Backup & Replication for verifying data recoverability and for sandbox testing. We occasionally test our backups by restoring into a sandbox and verifying the VM functionality from restored VMs. We also use the sandbox functionality to test patches and upgrades prior to rolling out those upgrades to the VMs.

Using Veeam Virtual Lab has been a game-changer for us. We have been able to spin up our VMs from backups and then we have been doing upgrades against the VMs. We did this for our Exchange upgrade and we could never have done this before without using Veeam Virtual Labs.

Veeam Backup & Replication provides a suite of copy data management capabilities for verifying data recoverability, testing security, ensuring compliance, and sandbox testing. Final reports are always so useful for our security that the backup is ok. When some errors occur, we always back up the full machine to restart the incremental daily backups. The report of all backups is stored for analytics.

Yes, with SureBackup which lets you test VM backups and check if you can recover data from them. You can verify any restore point of a backed-up VM. During a SureBackup job, Veeam Backup & Replication performs “live” verification where the product scans, the backed-up data for malware, boots the VM from the backup in the isolated environment, runs tests for the VM, checks if some services are up or not, powers the VM off, and creates a report on recovery verification results.

We have used the sandbox testing features quite a bit to test updates. We've also used the sandbox features to extract data from restored server instances that we don't want on the live network. Most recently, we needed end of year inventory report data from a retired SQL server. We were able to restore a 2-month-old backup of the server to a sandbox along with a domain controller from the same time, extract the data we needed, run the reports and complete our year-end financials. This process took less than 2 hours. Without Veeam it would have been an all-day project.

We consistently benefit from being able to prove the BDR solution is comprehensive and provide realistic RTO data to clients. Routinely as part of annual SOCII audits we have to gather evidence of the backup solution and parameters used and have never once been dinged on anything related to Veeam. Nor have the auditors mentioned or suggested that we should evaluate a different solution, while they often have no shortage of comments in other areas.

Veeam Backup & Recovery allows you to use their on-demand sandbox to test things out. It's let us open up different testing capabilities that our infrastructure would have otherwise (i.e., the sandbox). Their on-demand sandbox is isolated from the rest of the environment. You can patch your Windows server and watch that MS magic in action - without breaking your production environment.

These features allowed my company to execute and test our backups and doing a trial run of our disaster recovery plan by ensuring the copy backup to a remote site does indeed work, where we were able to bring up a machine on the remote site, and ensuring security option such as the encryption key works, and all data was still present on the remote end. The reports and verification tests after a backup is completed also helps ensure the reliability of the backup.

Veeam has allowed us to recover both, bare-metal restores of virtual machine environments and point in time recovery of applications and their associated databases and files to verify backup and recovery functionality as well as to test disaster recovery scenarios.
