Implementation Team is most Critical.

Rating: 7 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Vista as our construction company's ERP. Vista helps us with job costs and compares current and past jobs. It also allows us to manage our material and aggregate sales and inventory. We still have some fine-tuning to do with the software, but it has functioned as expected.

Pros

  • Gives us real time inventory updates when used properly.
  • Allows for integration between other software's.
  • Good customer support.

Cons

  • Their payroll module is terribly slow and very clunky.
  • Job costing parameters are very strict and limited.
  • Each module interface has too many forms and screens.
  • There is too much flexibility regarding where to put information into the system. There isn't one place to do anything, which creates confusion for staff.

Likelihood to Recommend

Good for large companies that can afford the expensive licenses and implementation costs. Not great for small companies.

Viewpoint Vista Improves the connection between the Accounting and Project Management

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Viewpoint Vista as a Project Manager and Department Manager. The major problems this addresses are the communication between our Accounting Team and us along with how we communicate with our project owners. Bills and documents were created by hand before, and now everything flows seamlessly together to make a great products. Our whole team will now use this software to improve our communication.

Pros

  • Organization of Information
  • Communication or connection between departments
  • Helps Simplify Project Management Issues

Cons

  • System is so large and detailed that there are multiple ways of doing things. Being trained and setup using that one method would be very helpful.
  • Some functions do not have a very detailed help section.
  • There is some large confusion with interfacing and initializing. These steps may need to be trained on more heavily.

Likelihood to Recommend

Viewpoint Vista is well suited for companies that have multiple departments or needs to track multiple branches. It is also very simple for sending out bills.

This system would be overkill for a company with fewer that 50 employees in my mind.

Vista by Viewpoint Makes All the Difference

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Vista by Viewpoint handles our Payroll, Accounting (AP, AR), Equipment Management and Project Management needs. It's a fully-functioning ERP software that handles every basic construction need as well as many complex construction needs. It can be fully utilized or utilized by just a few of your departments. Since I'm on the accounting side, we use it for our AP entries, Bank Recs, Journal Entries, Pay Apps, Cash Receipts, and more.

Pros

  • AP Reviewer Approvals
  • Intercompany Journal Transactions
  • Cash Management Bank Reconciliations
  • Pay Apps
  • Hundreds of reports
  • Equipment Management usage
  • Job Costing from several different sub-ledgers (AP, Subcontracts, Equipment Management)

Cons

  • Equipment Maintenance Scheduling
  • Make Project Management more user-friendly
  • Financial reporting within the software

Likelihood to Recommend

I worked for Viewpoint for 5 1/2 years in the past and for the last 6 1/2 years, I have been the guru of Viewpoint for the past 3 companies I've worked for. I've been the go-to for implementation in all parts of the software. Simple tasks are self-explanatory however, there are multiple ways each task can be done providing more detail the more you add to your workflow. We have implemented other 3rd party products that fit well with Viewpoint and interact well to give us the results we want. Payroll is super detailed and can be a pain to set up but once it's set up, you don't need to do much other than enter timecard entries (either through import or manual entry). AP is easy for end users to enter and easy for reviewers to approve invoices. Equipment usage is easy once set up (it's even easy to set up) and it is maintained through location transfers of the equipment. The general ledger is self-explanatory for journal entries. There is so much you can customize to give you the results needed throughout the software.

Viewpoint Vista supports our vision.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Shortly after starting in my position, I initiated the process of electronic payment to vendors. We partnered with Corpay and Viewpoint for this process. The implementation took less than a month, and we have had very few issues. This process has saved about 10 hours per week for our Accounting staff, not to mention postage expenses and rebate income.

Pros

  • Month-end and year-end closing.
  • Electronic payment to vendors.
  • Integration between multiple modules.

Cons

  • A more robust HR module.

Likelihood to Recommend

Viewpoint Vista meets our needs between the field and payroll processing extremely well.

Overall good.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

For the past years it's been mainly used for accounts payables, recently we are implementing new users to expand its use to bidding, quoting and planning.

Pros

  • detailed reports
  • many features and able to customize them to our needs
  • functions easy to figure out/understand

Cons

  • I found that its not easy to learn, not very user friendly

Likelihood to Recommend

Several modules for different uses with different departments. Customization to fit our needs. Cover all areas of accounting making accounting faster and accurate without a lot of input. There are so many reports available, sometimes it can be hard to find what you are looking for.

Looking forward to start using it for quoting, bidding and other departments in our company.

Viewpoint is great, Project Site desperately needs work

Rating: 7 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Viewpoint for all reporting for financials, labor, invoices, etc.

Pros

  • Job forecasting
  • Job Costing
  • Performance analysis

Cons

  • Project Site is a mess, it does not work nearly as well as Procore
  • It isn't easy to find exactly what report you are looking for, the module based system appears outdate.

Likelihood to Recommend

Best for job forecasting and project analysis. Being able to export into excel is a great feature. Logging in to Viewpoint is slow and burdensome, if there was a way to speed up this process that would be preferrable. The invoice review system works adequately as well, but I feel like the interface could be more user friendly. Viewpoint is not intuitive so any way to make it more like using an iPhone or another device we use daily would help new users become more proficient.

User friendly!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I think it is highly customizable and helps gets info in a quick way. There is a steep learning curve... but once you figure it out it's great.

Pros

  • Keep records.

Cons

  • I think submitting invoices is clunky at times.
  • I wish users were able to add fields to reports.

Likelihood to Recommend

I think it would work out for vet record-keeping. The system has a lot of tricks to make tracking down information easy.

A little too intricate

Rating: 5 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Vista for organizing/billing large Mechanical Contracting Projects. This helps track job costs.

Pros

  • Organizes Jobs Well
  • Offers many distinct categories within job sites

Cons

  • It is extremely complicated for a software system, there are too many complicated steps
  • Not very much training is available online

Likelihood to Recommend

My biggest complaint with this software systems is entering the data in more than one category to complete an action such as a Change Order. I have worked in several customer software systems and this is by far the most complicated.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use VP for every aspect of our construction company from writing subcontracts, purchase orders, billing owners, tracking costs, entering supplier invoices, printing checks, sending and receiving payments, month end closing and payroll. We might use some secondary programs, but they all tie back into Viewpoint for a one stop view of our projects and overall company profit and loss.

Pros

  • subcontract tracking
  • Invoices being posted and approved by the proper people
  • Running a variety of reports
  • Being able to export reports

Cons

  • when an invoice comes in for a PO or subcontract and it's over the dollar amount you can still enter the invoice. This should be stopped and not allowed.
  • Subcontract change orders are a struggle to create and uninterface

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Vista for financial controls and for Project management.

Pros

  • It is a great solution for AP.
  • We use it to complete payroll.
  • We use it to forecast project data.

Cons

  • Field time cards.
  • Purchase orders and invoicing.
  • Human resource controls

Likelihood to Recommend

Vista's core features shine bright and allow our company to operate smoothly. We are happy with how the application performs and runs on our systems. Their support is top notch and additional resources help us gain knowledge and fix problems quickly. Their additional modules could use some work, but they aren't needed in our use cases.
