We use Vista as our construction company's ERP. Vista helps us with job costs and compares current and past jobs. It also allows us to manage our material and aggregate sales and inventory. We still have some fine-tuning to do with the software, but it has functioned as expected.
  • Gives us real time inventory updates when used properly.
  • Allows for integration between other software's.
  • Good customer support.
  • Their payroll module is terribly slow and very clunky.
  • Job costing parameters are very strict and limited.
  • Each module interface has too many forms and screens.
  • There is too much flexibility regarding where to put information into the system. There isn't one place to do anything, which creates confusion for staff.
Good for large companies that can afford the expensive licenses and implementation costs. Not great for small companies.

Vista by Viewpoint is being used across our entire company. Our accounting department uses it for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, financials. Our contracts department uses it for vendor master records and audits of master file agreements and individual contracts. Our purchasing department uses it for the purchase orders. Our human resource department uses it for safety training tracking, onboarding, employment history, salary history, employee turnover analytics, benefit selection history, vacation scheduling and tracking (in conjunction with our payroll department) and general record keeping. Maintenace uses it for master equipment file, equipment maintenance history, preventative maintenance scheduling, parts and component orders, and work orders. Fleet operations use it for milage tracking, fleet management and asset tracking. Equipment services use if for fleet maintenance management and general maintenance tracking. Operations use it for job costing, project management, and projections.
  • Lots of useful reports out of the box.
  • Ease of use and navigation.
  • Ease to modify existing reports to fit your needs.
  • Very easy to customize
  • Support can take some time to get back with you, but they are currently working on that.
  • The knowledge base is a real mess, unorganized, and it's sometimes hard to find the answers you are looking for.
Vista by Viewpoint is well suited for companies that are looking to be able to drill down and run reports right out of the box. There are hundreds of standard reports that allow you to drill down into pretty much anything you want to query. The ability to easily modify these reports also helps to get a custom feel that we have grown to like.

We are a civil contractor doing asphalt paving, concreate paving, excavation & grading and bridge construction. Viewpoint Vista is our ERP where we process payroll, code and pay AP invoices, track project contracts and budgets and more. We also have rock quarries and asphalt plants and use Viewpoint Vista's inventory and material sales modules to track inventory and sales.
  • I love how Viewpoint Vista is easily customizable for our business needs.
  • Viewpoint Vista has a great online help and knowledge base that makes learning the system a breeze.
  • Viewpoint Vista integrates project management and accounting extremely well.
  • When updates are pushed out, it usually breaks things. I feel like updates need more testing before being implemented.
We are a civil contractor preforming asphalt paving, concrete paving, excavation & grading and bridge construction. We also do manufacturing of asphalt and rock crushing. We have found that Viewpoint Vista handles our contracting and manufacturing very well. We also have multiple companies within the same Vista ERP and have found the intercompany accounting works well.

I use Vista for organizing/billing large Mechanical Contracting Projects. This helps track job costs.
  • Organizes Jobs Well
  • Offers many distinct categories within job sites
  • It is extremely complicated for a software system, there are too many complicated steps
  • Not very much training is available online
My biggest complaint with this software systems is entering the data in more than one category to complete an action such as a Change Order. I have worked in several customer software systems and this is by far the most complicated.

Vista is wonderful, we were on TCM prior and it is light years ahead of TCM. TCM was The Construction Manager. I will say one thing that was difficult was the time for the conversion and set up

Vista if a powerful ERP system that allows our company to manage the demanding needs of the construction industry. Vista helps us track subcontracts and change orders easily. The reports are easy to understand and modify to our needs. Vista has made it easy to track the progress of jobs in one report.
  • There is great flexibility with Vista. We are able to easily customize reports, fields, and tables to fit our needs.
  • The end user help website is a great tool to learn more.
  • Paperless. We have been able to go paperless. There is no longer a need to pull documents from a file to create reports.
  • Can be difficult to learn. There are a lot of fields and screens that need to be set up.
  • Help and support can be difficult to research.
  • There is a lot of room for errors if you do not understand the program.
Vista by Viewpoint has given us the ability to customize the program to our needs. We have multiple companies and Vista has allowed us to manage intercompany transactions easily. It covers all aspects of the construction industry. The unapproved AP process has made approves easy to manage and track. The billing module allows us to customize invoices at a customer level.

We use Vista for financial controls and for Project management.
  • It is a great solution for AP.
  • We use it to complete payroll.
  • We use it to forecast project data.
  • Field time cards.
  • Purchase orders and invoicing.
  • Human resource controls
Vista's core features shine bright and allow our company to operate smoothly. We are happy with how the application performs and runs on our systems. Their support is top notch and additional resources help us gain knowledge and fix problems quickly. Their additional modules could use some work, but they aren't needed in our use cases.

Viewpoint Vista is a heavily used application within our organization. We are expanding the use to field use, which is being received very well by field personnel. Logging in is always a hassle with our employees, so we are looking forward to Azure AD and TrimbleOne being the same login. Field use has greatly improved employee's view of Viewpoint.
  • Field Management has proved to be helpful for payroll and field employees.
  • Viewpoint Analytics helps users access reports while in the field or in remote locations without having to login to the application.
  • Dealing with unapproved invoices in the portal, this saves time and makes it easier to access when in the field.
  • Customization reporting is a great tool and we use heavily.
  • Easier to update multiple AP unapproved invoices through the portal. We have admin users who have to code hundreds of transactions at a time, an easier way to do this would be helpful.
Field use, report analytics, workflows, customizable reports and a single application use to monitor projects and shared services.

I use the AP Module and IM Module the most currently. I have always appreciated how smoothly my job runs through Viewpoint.
  • The customer support and education is the best I've ever seen.
  • Capturing financials for reporting.
  • Open possibilities to new implantation!
  • Linking info from AP to PO to JC, etc.
  • Pricing lowered for education.
  • More opportunities to earn training to help implement throughout our company.
Everything I have researched to try within our company has been easy to access either through the customer portal or through speaking to someone. It is the best software I have come across in the construction world.

Vista is our company ERP and has been since 2008. We use Vista for all our accounting and payroll needs. We also integrate with it for our service management software and for our in-house developed project management app.
  • Calculation of job cost and revenue.
  • Processing of payroll and payroll taxes
  • Ability to add new fields to forms and database that don't already exist
  • As with any complex program, there are a lot of moving pieces, so it is complex to set up or alter.
  • Job and Phase mask must be set up on installation, and apply to all companies within the system. (We added a new division that needed different numbering mask, but it wasn't an option)
  • Can take a while for bugs found in releases to be resolved.
The ability to customize the software by adding fields, dropdowns, forms, tables, and custom reports is extensive. However, having Viewpoint provide support or assist in setting these up can be expensive. We do most of this in house, since we are familiar with Vista and have IT who have supported the product for 15 years.

I have used almost all parts of Vista, currently I work in HR management and Payroll. The addition of the HR management system has been a game changer for us, being able to onboard with the employee portal and having the field be able to input their own time with up to date jobs and phases has been instrumental in the processing of payroll. As with any software there are always issues and things that we would like done better, having the suggestion box is wonderful because it gives you the ability to see what issues and suggestions others are having. As an organization we use almost every part of Vista with the exception of inventory and material management. We are currently in the process of adding the service management system. We recently moved to the cloud, that has been an interesting transition.
  • Onboarding - this has been a huge change for us, we no longer have to manually enter the employees information, now we just initialize and were done.
  • Billing - the processing of the T&M invoices and template set up
  • Timecard entry using the portal- This has saved the payroll department hours of time when we had to manually key the time.
  • The new reporting format now that we are on the cloud, its very slow and not as easy to use as the onpriem version is. We also can't run large reports without timing out.
  • Onboarding, would be wonderful if the documents attached to payroll in addition to HR or instead of HR
  • Labor categories - only allowing one craft class code combination to be used, instead of allowing the same combination to be used under different labor categories.
  • Error messages - fix the systems so that you don't receive the same error message 4 or 5 times. We get it after the first time we don't need to be told over and over again.
I think Vista is a great software and easy to use, I can only speak for the specialty contractor side of things as that is all I have ever used it in. I think the addition of Aatrix was a good call even though I was not happy with it to start, I found that it really saved me a ton of time and processing.

Fully utilized in Accounting, Equipment Management, Job Costing, Human Resources, Purchasing, T&M Billing, and partially utilized for Project Management. We use most of the available modules.
  • T&M Invoicing flexibility
  • Payroll processing strong & flexible
  • Ability to customize fields, forms, reports
  • Trust of the company management has deteriorated over the years. Hoping the that Trimble buyout will improve, but it is yet to be seen.
  • Support has been much worse than early years. Releases have had more issues than 5-10 years ago.
  • Many of the key personnel that "owned" the product previously are gone.
  • Rapidly increasing pricing of support / software assurance every year; Motivation seems to have switched from offering a best quality product to a money-making machine with the buyout of competitors

Track cost - accounting - payables purchase orders - projections
  • Payroll system is outstanding. Easy to enter time and send out paycheck stubs.
  • Issuing purchase orders. Track budgets for individual jobs.
  • WIP reports, timely financial data.
  • Areas of improvement: equipment program use and trying to find solution through learning.
  • Imports: not as easy as the knowledge based leads on.
  • Crystal Reports is confusing even after completing the training on the subject.
The real-time data and the ease of use. Cost are post once invoices have been approved.

We use Viewpoint across our whole organization (minus workers in the field). We are in the Process of Implementing Field Management where we will have even more users inputting data into the system. Viewpoint allows us to track costs, quantities, and so much more from the field. We then can calculate cost and revenue projections at project completion to make sure we are staying on budget. We input data into many different places, and all of that information can feed into one report that gives us a snapshot of how each project is doing month to month. Update - we have implemented Field Management and it has been going well. It takes so much time away from processing payroll in the office, so that is helpful. Also limiting what time can be coded to is beneficial and prevents many mistakes and miscodes.
  • Customer Support via Clearview. The ability to research issues we are having and try to resolve them ourselves through Clearview is invaluable. I have often been researching one issue or hang up I was having, and learned a few other things I didn't know through this system.
  • Customization of reports - the ability to have reports written in this system to give us access to information all on one report is great! There are so many standard Viewpoint reports as well.
  • Ease of fixing mistakes. Being able to bring something that has been posted back into a batch to fix has been wonderful as we are all human and make mistakes. There are not too many times that we actually have to call Viewpoint for support when we cannot fix something ourselves.
  • Writing Crystal Reports is not easy. You either have to have someone really knowledgeable on staff or source it out. Sometimes it can be pricey for custom reports.
  • Support callbacks. It depends on the time of year, but sometimes it takes a week to get a call back if it is not "Urgent".
  • PO Receipts Module. We gave this a try at our company and it has been a pretty big disaster. We are trying to "undo" it all now because it is not functioning how we envisioned. And there is not much information out there on it. It's almost as if it was an afterthought and not developed very far.
  • As someone else mentioned, error loops. Trying to figure out what module or program the error was made in, and undo the mistake to keep moving forward can be so time consuming!
Vista integrates well with our estimating software. I am in charge of dumping budgets from HCSS into Viewpoint and formatting it all. Most of the time, it doesn't take a whole lot of work to get it set up. Cost tracking is incredible in Viewpoint. We can always figure out what our cost is at a given month by running reports. Also with projecting future costs and revenue to determine our profit on any particular project.

Vista by Viewpoint is being used as the primary Accounting and Job Costing software for the entire organization. It solves the need for record keeping, vendor payments, Human Resources, payroll, Billing & Collections, Cash Management, Inventory, Purchasing, Service, GL, Job Costing and Project Management. It also serves as the solutions for managing subcontractors, vendors, customers. Also, it is our main document management resource.
  • The one-stop-shop mentality has been the number one reason our organization continues to utilize Vista by Viewpoint.
  • We also appreciate the continued effort to become a more efficient platform with a shift to providing more resources for the field.
  • Lastly, we appreciate the customer support. It has come a long way in the last 10 years; however, their support has remained in line with their growth.
  • There are times, where I had a question on how to set something up because Vista is very customizable; however, it's considered billable time; so I end up having to figure it out on my own in order to avoid the added expense.
  • Sometimes I think there are too many forms in order to get something set up. There seems to be a lot of open and closing. It would be nice if some of the processes were consolidated into one form.
  • Sometimes the sales staff can be over the top. I probably get at least 3-5 sales calls from Viewpoint every month for additional features/products that they are offering.
Viewpoint is well suited for a one-stop-shop Accounting and PM Accounting software program. I would say Vista would be less appropriate for smaller contractors who do less volume. Viewpoint offers other software programs for subcontractors or general contractors who have revenue amounts less than $10 - $20M per year or so.

Vista is currently being used by our Accounting, Admin, and Division team leaders. Division leaders use the Job Cost and PM modules for project accounting. The implementation of Keystyles has allowed us to provide all of our employees access to information inside Vista such as earnings, W2, personal information changes, timecard entry.
  • Job cost accounting.
  • Payroll.
  • Project Management.
  • Web-based platform.
  • Mobile applications.
  • Document management.
Vista is a very robust accounting package and job cost modules. Definitely well suited for large contractors, specifically heaving highway customers. Vista is less appropriate for smaller companies and subcontractors.

We use Vista as our ERP. Our operations team also uses the product for project management. It is used at our corporate level for accounting and payroll. Each branch uses it for purchasing.
  • Purchase orders by Job. You can manually upload large POs rather than typing them out line by line.
  • Reporting. Vista comes with many valuable reports. You can also create custom reports and design anything you might need.
  • AR/AP transactions are easy to create and track.
  • Security setup. There are many places to remember to add/remove and update securities. It would make more sense to have one place.
  • Standard Reports: depending upon the tables that are pulling data, the financial numbers can be different. You must really know what you are looking at and for to understand what the report is including.
  • Customer Support: Many times it takes several responses back and forth before the issue is escalated or resolved.
If you only needed an ERP, Vista does a good job. My main reason for scoring a 4, is the product sales reps really push a complete product umbrella with Viewpoint One. They push for Vista to be in the cloud and sell the other products such as TEAM and Field View which are not a complete product yet.

Our company uses Vista for Project Management and Financials. The ability to coordinate both project management and accounting and the link between the two has greatly reduced accounting errors and reporting is much more accurate. We utilize both modules on a daily basis and rely heavily on reporting functions. The products are generally used by upper management, accounting, and project-level managers.
  • Reporting functions
  • Accurate link between project management and accounting
  • Payroll functions
  • online customer portal help. Very hard to find specific answers due to the overwhelming amount of information
  • how to guides - these are generally provided by other users and are more specific to their own organizations.
  • help with updates - responsibility is on the user with little support help unless you want to pay $$$
Vista is specifically suited for construction firms with $10M or higher revenue - I believe it would be too aggressive of a program for smaller companies. General Contracting firms are also a great fit as it is designed to manage numerous subcontractors on a given project. It also allows you to create different companies to handle accounting functions in a variety of ways over multiple projects.

Vista by Viewpoint is the accounting, project management, equipment management and human resources management system in use by our family of companies. The various components of the Vista system provide a fully integrated system for keeping all of our operating companies and support departments up to date with the current information on our projects and people. The integration between Vista and the other Viewpoint One components we utilize provide a touch point into the system for nearly 100% of our employees in areas ranging from managing project data and finance to employees managing their own time entry and personal information updates. Vista has allowed us to fully integrate almost all areas of our data, finance and personnel management and remove more than 75% of the external processes that have been used in the past.
  • New employee on-boarding and personnel management
  • Full spectrum accounting management (AP/AR/Payroll)
  • Project management from contract award through project close-out
  • Data security management, reporting and anlysis
  • Equipment full lifespan management for costs, revenue and location tracking
  • User Database allows for built-in customization capabilities to fit the most unique business requirements
  • Additional web based functionality is needed in some areas to better support remote operations and low bandwitch sites
  • Improved analytics capabilities to preclude the need for using 3rd party solutions for analytics
  • Improved support for SSRS reporting capabilities in the Viewpoint Cloud environment
We have utilized the full extent of Vista system capabilities through every iteration of its evolution since 1986.
Over the years we have reviewed other systems to see if there is a better fit out there to support our various areas of operation in vertical construction, heavy civil construction, construction management, mosular fabrication and specialty subcontracting, and to date we have not found a better fit for our business.
The system is not perfect but it is constantly evolving and being enhanced to meet customer requests and remain in alignment with the current technologies available.
The areas where Vista is lacking are very limited; estimate imports for new projects and financial analytics are two areas which are currently being developed and we look forward to seeing what Viewpoint will bring forward in these areas.

  • Functional reporting within the software uses Crystal Reports. This requires a special expertise for customization and limits reporting flexibility
  • Lack of single sign on for some of Viewpoints most recent web-based tools/functionality
  • Implementation and customization of the product is challenging and requires some work.
Great HR Management functionality via the Viewpoint One product! Analytics reporting is new but is adding functionality all the time. Integration of all the Viewpoint tools and functionality is a big plus between the project field management and the back office. Help tools and easy to understand and very intuitive. Customer support however is not the speediest.

Vista is our company wide ERP. We utilize almost all the modules of the core product such as Accounting, HR, Job Cost, Project Management and many others. In addition we have purchased several of the add-on integrated solutions to compliment the product such as Team, HR Management, Field Management and cloud hosting in the VEC environment. Through Vista and the add-ons almost every person in the company uses it daily or weekly.
  • Job Cost module is strong, many controls yet still user friendly and functional.
  • Certified payroll is done particularly well.
  • The cloud hosting solution has been a positive experience, eliminating much of our on-premise cost and headache.
  • PO module can be very 'sensitive' and problems/issues are hard to resolve.
  • 2-way communication with add-on solutions versus 1-way, can create out of sync data between Team and Vista PM.
  • Work Centers are horribly clunky and customization of views and grids doesn't work, especially for Service.
Construction is obviously the target industry and I think it would be best suited for larger organizations with a solid IT and Accounting team of 4-6 at least. We have only 2 accounting team members and they struggle to keep up with the product, updates and features all the while doing their day to day work.

We use Vista to track job costs, billings, productivity and other user-defined data points. We use something called regions at our company that drives a lot of JC reporting for us. That is defined by a user-defined table and user-defined fields. This ability of Viewpoint to allow major customization to their product to allow us to run our business how we want to is very helpful to us.
  • Customization is as easy or as complicated as you like. You can get to the SQL tables/views if you want or go through Viewpoint to create customization in their software.
  • It's faster than competing products.
  • Their support team is fantastic. I use live chat and knowledge base daily and I always get answers.
  • Sometimes Vista has some bugs that should be worked out before general release so be careful when upgrading
  • Their TEAM platform is confusing
  • The interface for their product feels outdated
Vista by Viewpoint is made for construction companies of all sizes from what I've seen. It does not make sense for companies that don't do construction. Since it does construction so well though it's a selling point with clients who need help organizing things like PO's, cost tracking and billings. We have potential customer that wants to see all those things but doesn't have the software to do it.

Vista is being used as our Construction Management Software across the entire company. Last June we also purchased Keystyle which was then purchased by Viewpoint. We use all Modules except for the Service Modules and the Resouce Modules. We use Viewpoint to address the majority of our business problems, we have put a lot of customization into Viewpoint. We have 500+ Custom reports along with many user-defined modules/tables.
  • Track Jobs - the PM Module allows tracking of a job.
  • User Defined Database - My sell on Viewpoint was how easy it was to add custom fields/tables and even create custom procedures for areas where Viewpoint did not have a module for that.
  • Equipment Tracking - Equipment Tracking is done very easily in Viewpoint.
  • Safety Training - Viewpoint tracks/compiles training however the reports are basic. We need to be able to see training by looking at a job and the employees on the job for certain training classes and seeing if the class is expired, missing or current. The entire safety training could use an overhaul.
  • PM PO Change Orders - this needs to be added into the PO Work Flow for the PM Side. There is not a way to do a change order and keep it in the PM PO Workflow.
  • Employee Info - A picture on the HR Resource Master would be great, then allow to print badges from there and also assign each employee a QR Code so the QR Code can be scanned for training or to get a list of the person's training.
Viewpoint Support - The support side for Vista is lacking in the amount of time it takes for a response and then also the time it takes to get the issue resolved.
Recently, I've had a ticket open for 2 weeks with no response, I had to go to the support manager to get a response. The longest ticket I had open with no response was 13 weeks, which is not acceptable. Also, Support needs to pay attention to time zone's and not call, leave a message and then send an email about how they can't get a hold of you and will close the ticket if they do not hear from you the next day. Viewpoint support is also very poor at keeping issues/cases updated on their side. It would be nice if I could go in and look at the issues/cases and see what Viewpoint is doing so I do not have to ask for a status update all the time. Support also does not read the information that is sent in on a ticket, they will send me links to articles in Clearview that are not even related to the problem submitted. Also if I add screen prints or attachments when I do get a follow up from support they always ask for me to submit screenshots because they cannot see them, even though I have submitted them with the initial ticket.
