VWO has proven to be a valuable tool for conducting A/B and multivariate testing to improve conversion rates for clients. Users have successfully implemented and tested different hypotheses for conversion rate optimization goals, including running simultaneous tests across multiple mobile devices. The platform allows users to watch recordings of visitors who have dropped out of the ecommerce funnel, making it easy to select relevant recordings. VWO is widely utilized across organizations with multiple teams and publishing groups for format testing, optimizing sales funnels, and testing changes to website booking journeys. Additionally, users leverage VWO's valuable insight tools such as heat maps, click maps, and geo-targeting initiatives for in-depth analysis and data-driven decision-making. VWO has a similar toolkit of features to Optimizely, although in almost every respect Optimizely is a more mature offering. VWO is catching up, which is visible through the addition of SmartStats (to compete with Optimizely's Stats Engine) and acquisitions like Navilytics. Optimizely also has a more mature personalisation offering (although VWO looks to be heading in this direction). VWO has compelling pricing, especially for smaller and medium sites, that make it stand up well to Optimizely's more refined product.

Both Optimizely and Visual Website Optimizer work equally well, but they each have their ups and downs. For example, Visual Website Optimizer tends to have a more user friendly interface, while Optimizely's JavaScript code seems to be less glitchy and tends to work more often than Visual Website Optimizer's code.

  • UnBounce,Google Analytics
UnBounce has a great tool for testing landing pages, but I found VWO to be more intuitive to use and more robust in the features it offers. I used to use Google Website Optimizer back in the day and it was a nightmare to set up and QA. GWO took up a lot of the IT teams time because tracking and conversion scripts had to be updated for every test. VWO has greatly simplified this process and is a pleasure to work with.

VWO is the way to go

The way that the VWO technology works allows us to test on our clients websites and change presentations of pages without the visitor ever knowing or seeing any elements flash or move. We were unable to achieve that with the Optimizely platform and experienced flickering and flashing of altered elements when the variations of tests were loading.

Currently I am in a trial period for Optimizely to see if they are able to satisfy our needs for conducting higher level testing across multiple pages. We are currently interested in goal funnel tracking and VWO does not seem to offer this type of testing in our current plan. So far I feel Optimizely is a very sophisticated testing platform and requires a higher level of knowledge with code and testing in general to conduct certain tests. VWO seems easier for initial set up and would be suited more for the someone with little experience with AB Testing, Optimizely is quicker in response and provides detailed replies in their support. VWO has also rolled out a new UI but my account has not yet been changed over to it, been waiting since April, and I have requested early access.

Both products are very similar but Visual Website Optimizer has a much friendlier interface. Also VWO's capabilities matched our needs slightly better. Monetate had post-segmentation which was very appealing and I wish VWO had that feature.

  • google website optimiser,omniture test & target
It's much easier to get right than GWO. It's much easier to understand than Omniture.

That means it's much quicker to get tests running than either of the others. Both of which drove me spare with the level of complexity needed to try relatively simple things.

We also use Monetate which for us is a solution that helps us better personalise the experience for our customers. Especially with this tool we are able to test throughout our whole order process, on every page. We use the VWO for budget reasons and because it offers us the possibility of split url testing, which we do not have with Monetate. The VWO support team is much better than Monetate's support team though.
