Webroot DNS Protection is a security product that uses DNS (Domain Name System) to protect an our network from malicious websites and other online threats. A job it does incredibly well.

To use Webroot DNS Protection in an organisation at the most basic implementation level, an administrator would first need to some configuration with the Webroot product on the organisation's DNS server. This could be done by changing the DNS server settings to point to Webroot's DNS servers, or by configuring a DNS forwarder to forward requests to Webroot's servers. Once configured, Webroot DNS Protection automatically blocks access to known malicious websites and other online threats. This is then used to help protect the organisation from malware, phishing, and other types of cyber attacks. Our main use cases for Webroot within the business is protecting employees from accidentally visiting malicious websites while browsing the internet and enforcing organisational policies regarding internet usage.
  • Enforcing organisational policies regarding internet usage, such as blocking access to certain types of websites (e.g., gambling, social networking, etc.)
  • Prevent malware infections
  • Protection from various phishing attempts
Cons
  • Further integration with other webroot products
  • Improved visual documentation
  • Better support desk
Webroot is very easy to setup and configure, while offering some fantastic best of breed protection. It can do a lot and offer enough to a business quick enough to justify its cost very quickly and effectively. The DNS protection on offer is very well suited and will grow alongside the organisation.
  • Easy DNS protection
  • Reduced instances of virus Infection
  • Reduced instances of malware infection
  • Easy migration from previous platform
  • Less infection reports since implementing
  • More internal support tickets raised for blocked websites
Ultimately Webroot DNS protection offered the same level of protection required from the organisation at a lower entry and yearly cost compared to the competitors at the time of review. The migration path both from the old product and to any further products are also a lot easier when directly compared.

Webroot sits atop my internet queries to protect from harmful attacks and provides added assurance that no malware or the like will invade. Simple, easy to use and sleek at the top of the desktop. It’s important that my organization does not fall victim to phishing schemes (though they seem ever common in media these days), identity theft or any nature of wrongdoing and this constant protection is invaluable.
  • Identity theft protection
  • Firewall monitor
  • Phishing defense
Cons
  • Malware block could be better
  • Could impact speed for some older PCs
  • Sometimes buggy but usually fixed
I’d recommend using Webroot DNS Protection for a variety of use cases. These include, as mentioned, security, privacy and visibility for protecting IT infrastructure and workplace users. This is especially important to extend protections to hybrid workers who may not have as much access to standard IT services. I like the phishing protection and content filtering services.
  • Content filtering
  • Phishing protection
  • Malware blocking
  • Streamlined safety for org
  • Protection against dangerous attacks
  • Reduced IT service needs

Webroot DNS protection secures the web traffic of a PC to add a further layer to the defence in depth approach. We found it difficult to sell more expensive products to our cheapest customers, and this was a good solution to that. We sometimes use Webroot's AV solution, which made it a comfortable upsell.
  • Easy to install with the AV client
  • managed from a web page
  • good choice of URL categories for blocking
Cons
  • No discount for using both the AV and the DNS filtering
  • Redirection is pretty slow
  • As Webroot is a company that caters to the SMB and customers looking for a cheap solution, the threat protection is not that great compared to some of its competitors
If you already have Webroot AV, it makes sense to continue with the same vendor. It's pretty cheap compared to some solutions, so it might be the case that it's this or nothing, in which case this is a no brainer.

If you are an MSP, this is an easy product to sell, and requires very little maintenance. you do need to monitor it but it runs itself most of the time.

If you are a customer with >50 users, you should really be looking for a product that is a bit higher up the food chain.
  • Managed from the same GUI as the AV client
  • Bypass is a bit better designed than some competitors
  • Logging is found in the Web GUI and is fairly intuitive
  • MSP dashboard is a nice bonus
  • Much reduced time spent on malware issues at small business customers
  • Slightly increased revenue as this fills a space that didn't used to exist in our stack
  • Customers satisfaction went up due to the added ability to block certain content quickly and easily
It's pretty similar when you compare it to the DNS filters of other AV vendors. They're all additional offerings to the core solution of an AV. I would say if you're on Trend Micro and you're thinking of moving to Webroot, it's really a sideways step, but it's certainly a big improvement to have this product over nothing at all. It's pretty cheap, easy to manage, and definitely offers value for money due to the big leap in security this will give your business.
