Workplace by Facebook is used by our entire organization. We use it as a communications and collaboration platform to share ideas and brainstorm. It's a great platform for sharing important company news, updates, and events. We also use it for quick polling and surveys to get feedback from employees. It's one of the first things we introduce to new employees so that they can get up to speed.
  • It is so easy to introduce to employees because it has the same look and feel as Facebook, which the majority of our employees are already familiar with.
  • It's a communications, collaboration, and file/document sharing tool all rolled up into one. It eliminates the need for other software.
  • Our HR team uses it constantly to keep employees up to date on company news and for polling to get feedback on new initiatives.
Cons
  • There's a slight concern over the privacy and security of company and employee information. This concern is increasing with each revelation about Facebook's use of data.
  • I am not a fan of the Messenger and Workplace App being separate; just like with regular Facebook. I wish they were combined in the same app.
  • Although overall I do find Workplace by Facebook productive, occasionally I find myself losing time by scrolling and clicking too much on company gossip and news.
To me there's not a better tool out there for sharing company and employee news. If you use Facebook, then you will have no problem transitioning to Workplace by Facebook. If you are concerned about getting distracted and losing time (which may happen on Facebook) don't be concerned. The developers of Workplace by Facebook have really done a good job about making it a productivity tool first, and a social tool second.

Workplace by Facebook is used by the whole organization, in order to improve collaboration in the workplace and communication. It is used to share activities and showcase things that each department or team is doing and is also used to collect information or create collaboration.
  • Great for file sharing
  • A way to rate or ask for feedback
  • Group capabilities
  • To create a sense of community and sharing
Cons
  • mobile app often crashes
  • The groups are not well organized in my opinion.
  • Only effective as long as the people you need to communicate with are also using it.
We can say that this tool is quite useful in the field of research because in our case, our team spends a lot of time in the field gathering information to be processed in our offices. On the other hand If you want to talk about personal things or publish information about something that is outside your workspace, this application is not the most appropriate

We use it as a hub for communications. Several departmental groups, upload "how to" videos and engage in video conference calling.
  • I love the video calling and the ability to share your screen.
  • The professional groups are also helpful to organize training.
  • Sharing event posts with one another helps us not have to reinvent the wheel, but use ideas that have shown themselves to be successful in other markets.
Cons
  • As much as I love the video calling, if there are more than two screens on a call, the screen sharing option goes away.
  • I would like to see live options like Facebook has.
The platform is well suited for sharing events and posting pictures from different events across our portfolios. I am not sure why you wouldn't use Workplace, unless you don't like the redundancy of posting in both places.

It is being used in two ways. The first way is to share activities and showcase things that each department or team is doing. Is a way to present what is going on with different departments and teams. The second way is to collect information or create collaboration. For example, if there is an event and they want to gather feedback about it, they will create a page and solicit feedback.

It helps with the sense of community since most of the teams are either fully remote or in different states or even countries.
  • To create a sense of community and sharing
  • To showcase what others are doing
  • A way to rate or ask for feedback
Cons
  • The groups are not well organized in my opinion. It can get a bit confusing
  • There is no way to truly collaborate with documents and information
  • I wish there was better ways to create surveys, "quizzes", and more ways to gather feedback.
  • To create community and engagement: This is a good platform for those who are used to Facebook since it mimics pretty much all those features.
  • To gather feedback and create simple collaboration and sharing: It has some tools that can help with this but are not as robust as I would like.
  • To promote or showcase what others are doing: Very simple to do and the ability to add images and videos is very helpful. Generally speaking, I do not like how videos are encoded and streamed in Facebook.

Highly recommend workplace by Facebook for large hierarchal corporations

I work at Delta Airlines and at the moment the entire company, including ground staff and corporate colleagues, all use the platform. After trying many internal social platforms, this one has the highest adoption and has created a multitude of more conversations and communication between colleagues, peers, and senior leaders. By improving the corporate culture and morale through the social platform, we have also been able to understand the latest company events, announcements, and accomplishments by all staff through pictures, videos, posts.
  • It provides the ability to instantly post something the same way you would on personal Facebook accounts to let the company know of a success story, announcement, or praise for another employee.
  • The ability to stay logged into your personal account and access your company login through the same portal. This has drastically increased adoption versus any other internal social media channel that we have tested in the past.
  • The ability for others, even those you don’t work with, to comment and share posts that team members have shared. This allows for digital virality within the company, which helps foster a healthy corporate culture digitally.
  • Since most people use Facebook for their own personal social networking, the ease of figuring out Facebook for work is exceptional and get more people to adopt the platform and use it on a daily basis.
Cons
  • So far, it has addressed every need that we have had as a company. If anything, our company can work on adopting the platform even more, especially with ground staff that have wins and learnings onboard aircraft and at the airport. Being on the corporate side of the business, I would love to see some way to encourage these types of employees to post and share more.
  • I would also like to see if there is a way to have an element of paid social on the internal side so that more important announcements and press releases can be shared and can show further up on every employee's feed when they log in.
It’s easy to use and is so similar to how we use Facebook for personal social networking. However, I can see how this becomes a problem when employees are spending too much time on the platform and less focus on the job. This especially applies to employees that work front line.
