Yahoo Gemini is a versatile platform that has been widely used by various organizations and marketing teams for a range of purposes. One of its main use cases is running campaigns aimed at general awareness and converting traffic to a limited degree. Users have found it to be particularly effective for campaigns with low search volume or unique informational queries that are hard to weed out, making it a valuable tool for reaching niche audiences.

Another common use case for Yahoo Gemini is as an additional channel for paid search efforts. Similar to platforms like Quora and Reddit, users have integrated Yahoo Gemini into their digital marketing strategies to create and manage advertising campaigns for different clients. This allows them to drive potential customers to their websites or landing pages, expanding the reach of their paid search initiatives.

Furthermore, Yahoo Gemini has proven to be an effective lead generation tool, complementing success on other platforms such as Google AdWords. By leveraging the platform's capabilities, organizations have been able to promote artists' tour dates and upcoming events, ensuring that fans receive timely reminders through Yahoo. Additionally, Yahoo Gemini has been utilized for advertising events like esports tournaments, enabling marketers to target specific demographics effectively.

Moreover, many users have adopted Yahoo Gemini as a means to drive leads and traffic to websites, leveraging their extensive advertising experience spanning over eight years. The platform offers the advantage of purchasing native/brand awareness media at a decent and more cost-effective rate. It also provides opportunities for greater exposure when resold to clients and managed by the Ad Operations department.

Yahoo Gemini has found applications in several industries beyond entertainment. For instance, it plays a significant role in promoting brand awareness and performance marketing in sectors like mortgages and life insurance. By using the platform's features strategically, organizations can easily market their products and services across search engines and websites.

Lastly, Yahoo Gemini enables users to reach a unique target audience through native advertising. By introducing them to services and brands before targeting them with paid search advertising, businesses can effectively engage potential customers and drive conversions.

In summary, Yahoo Gemini offers a variety of use cases, from running campaigns for general awareness to targeting niche audiences with unique queries. It serves as an additional channel for paid search efforts and complements success on other platforms, allowing users to drive leads and traffic to websites. The ability to purchase native/brand awareness media at a more cost-effective rate and reach specific target audiences makes Yahoo Gemini a valuable tool for marketers across industries.

Scalable to an Extent

I would describe our usage of Yahoo Gemini! as a tangential, albeit ongoing, experiment with non-mainstream paid channels. I'd put it in the same paid category as Quora, Reddit, and other non-mainstream categories of paid ads. We have seen a certain degree of success with it, though I'll be the first to say that the interface isn't at all pleasant.
  • Less competition
  • Cost-effective bidding system
  • Great for that little bit of extra spend
  • Quality leads and MQLs
  • The interface is very poor
  • Feels like a dinosaur in some ways
  • Customer support is lacking
As I've alluded to before, Yahoo Gemini! is particularly well-suited for that extra bit of marketing spend and those last few needed leads and MQLs to get you over the hump. We definitely find that the ROI is well worth it, but it's also not the type of channel that we're gonna drop half of our budget on. The scalability is limited to an extent.
  • Quality leads/MQLs
  • Scalable to an extent
  • Breakdown after a certain point
Yahoo Gemini! does stack up well against its competitors in the smaller spending realms. We've never been able to justify the ROI when we try to scale it up to even 10% - 15% of our spend. No, we've found that it's much better as a tangential win than a mainstream channel.
At times, the support feels non-existent for a somewhat complicated interface.
Not bad, but not great.

We use the platform to purchase ad inventory on Gemini. This is a decent & cheaper way to purchase native/brand awareness media.
  • Native advertising budget
  • Native advertising placements
  • Search engine marketing management
  • Clunky platform
It definitely doesn't belong with a paid search team. The native & search buys should be the responsibility of a display team. It frequently gets grouped into an SEM buy because of Yahoo's association with Bing. But that time is over now! All that said, it is very good for simple native buys and Yahoo properties have a ton of loyal content consumers that have great retention.
  • There is very limited revenue from Yahoo.
  • They give a lot of free trial dollars, in which case it's risk free!
Yahoo has a broader reach than LinkedIn in terms of category of intents. Yahoo also supercedes LinkedIn in terms of impression volume. LinkedIn is also a more expensive acquisition overall.
There is a ton of support that is willing to hold your hand through everything. However, the primary reason behind this is the very clunky UI that makes media buying and customized targets difficult for self-service. Even big fans of Gemini find it hard to advocate for a new client to purchase because the setup is convoluted and tricky.
One of my main pain points with yahoo gemini is that the product is very difficult to use and the UI seems like they took a skeleton of a similar product and made it bare bones functional for the purpose of generating ad spend. It is a huge barrier for new customers and I feel one of the main reasons they have new customers at all is all the free trial dollars they offer.

We currently resell Yahoo Gemini to our clients and manage their advertising through their platform. This product is specifically used by our Ad Operations department and sold by our sales team. The Ad Ops team is the hands on keyboard type and manipulating campaigns, set up, reporting, etc. This allows us to provide our clients with an array of products to advertise on multiple platforms to get a greater exposure!
  • Good reporting.
  • Easy to use interface.
  • Transparency.
  • Some parts of the entry are repetitive.
  • Could use some more robust options.
  • Could use some more granular reporting.
It clearly doesn't have as great of a reach as Google does, so it is sometimes hard to get clients on board with wanting to advertise there, but it is a good way to get all sorts of different demographics and a large reach if you're on all the different platforms available.
They don't really have a unique audience.
  • Being able to provide our clients with a full suite of products is important.
  • Being able to provide our clients with a different audience to be in front of.
  • Being able to push Google Ads campaigns through is super easy!
Google is definitely the mammoth in this space, but it is nice to be able to be on multiple different search engines. People are using all different kinds of SEs to get their information.
It is also nice to push other campaigns straight into Yahoo! and not have as much legwork on that end.
They were always super helpful during training and demoing and would answer any questions we had.
We didn't have a direct account manager, which would have been nice, but I just don't think their size accommodates for that type of set up.
They are very knowledgeable and help guide you through a set up for each particular client.
Being able to push Google campaigns straight into their UI is the most helpful thing, that way you're not doing two completely different setups. Saves a lot of work on the front end. Their UI is pretty straightforward to use and doesn't require a ton of legwork to get things running.
