7shifts is used for our entire company, of which we have 3 operating locations and one soon-to-be open location. They are all variations of restaurants, bars, and brewpubs. Meaning we have a myriad of departments including management, front of house and back of house. And within those, split between job duties such as barista, expo, bartender, shift lead, etc. 7shifts helps keep communication open and easily accessible between departments.
- Staff can easily access fellow team members' contact info (phone & email).
- Staff can easily enter availability or time off.
- Managers have a log book to share issues or updates from the days’ shift so quick action can be completed easily if needed.
- Being able to communicate with managers only, with a specific department, or with the entire staff easily is very helpful.
- Sometimes notifications don’t clear when checked; or it’s hard to understand where in 7shifts the notification is coming from (log book, schedule, etc).
- Would be nice to add photos to post.
- Streamlined communication for faster action when needed (fix broken items, etc).
- Supports quality of life for staff as schedules are easily posted and viewed.
- Supports quality of life for managers with a managers-only forum to communicate staff issues and handle in a timely manner from shift to shift.
Slack is great for communicating and you can add photos, but 7shifts seems like it was built for our business model (restaurant/bar). It’s easy to use by staff and management and can be mobile or desktop. 7shifts also has the best prompt questions/bubbles that keep you focused on what to include in shift reports. As well as the schedule, availability and time off request being made so simple and easy to use for staff and management.
