Overall Satisfaction with Widen

Acquia DAM (Widen) is used as an institutional-level asset database and delivery system for our entire college campus. It provides a one-stop-shop location for branding and visual assets for the entire campus community. It also allows the marketing and creative team to ensure the most up-to-date and relevant assets are available to users.
  • Fantastic customer support
  • Great on-boarding and migration
  • Some desired features are hidden behind steep paywalls.
  • It's expensive.
  • Decreased user support requests
  • Increased availability of assets
Cumulus didn't offer the flexibility or price point our organization needed. We would need to pay almost double the amount to Cumulus to get the same feature set of Widen out of the box.
Acquia DAM (Widen) Collective is well suited to teams who are constantly churning material. Also good for teams that have many storage needs as storage prices are nearly at cost with AWS. Acquia DAM (Widen) Collective customer service is remarkable, and it's great for teams who don't have the bandwidth to also support users. The system is highly customizable to any team's needs. Lots of expansion capabilities.

Using Widen

100 - These users are primarily marketers, creative team members and campus partners who need constant and fresh assets for their campus communications. We also use portals to allow access to specific assets to the entire campus community to better tell our college story.
5 - Very little in-house support is needed because Acquia DAM (Widen) provides robust support.
  • Delivery of assets to the public during a major event (i.e. convocation).
  • Upkeep of the the most relevant and "on message" assets.
  • Use of portals to deliver assets to larger group without paying for seats.
  • Advanced permissions to restrict assets to specific populations.
  • Implementing templates for DIY design.
  • Integration into drupal web platform.

Evaluating Widen and Competitors

Yes - Canto Cumulus - We were using an antiquated version without a logical and useful upgrade path. We needed to find a cloud-based solution that fit our evolved needs for dynamic integrations into other institutional systems.
I would have scoped more for future-proofing our budget and expanding needs.
