Overall Satisfaction with Parallels Remote Application Server
We come from using XenApp Citrix for more than 13 years, then I started testing Parallels RAS to see if we could seamlessly migrate the app delivery service from one product to another with minimum effort and impact on end users. All our tests were successful from Parallels farm setup, published resources, servers configurations to user experience.
- Easy server setup and configuration.
- You can use Parallels on Windows, Mac, iOS, Android.
- User experience is great, from image quality to input response.
- Printer configuration done easily using Universal Printing.
- Some improvement can be done managing open sessions.
- Effectively configure idle disconnection times.
- Ability to add applications from shared resources.
- Current and historic RAS license usage.
- Users can work from home in case they need it.
- Licenses cost savings compared with Citrix.
- Users can use their own devices.
Parallels RAS is easier to setup, use and mantain than other options I have tried. It really works and we had great reviews from our users on the trial period prior to fully deploy the solution across 3 cities. Parallels has a great visual presentation and excellent user interface response, we can even publish personal PC's and Virtual Desktops very easily thanks to Nutanix integration. It really has a lot of options for the price we paid.
We are now able to deliver virtual desktops to our users in a really easy way thanks to Nutanix AHV integration to our RAS farm, it has the ability to get the virtual desktops ready for our users and turn it off on demand. We really loved this option because we did not needed to pay more for VDI or PCs publishing.
People in our work enviroment love to have acces to our work resources in such an easy way like the HTML5 client, so they can just open the browser and write our work URL, put their credentials and get ready to work on their own devices. iOS client works great also and it is very responsive, it's easy to use and configure to get it up and running.
We use Parallels RAS VDI and it worked like magic, giving the users a base configuration windows with all software they need to work, then configure the users and how many desktops become ready for the users on demand. VDI desktops can be turned on and off based on user load.
Active directory integration with Parallels RAS helped us to use the same accounts we already have on our AD, so all the user policies and restrictions can be set based on AD users and groups in a very granular way, all our communications are sent thru SSL encrypted data. In case we need to restrict access it's easy to disable or delete user account in AD users and computers.
