Overall Satisfaction with DraftSight

[DraftSight is] used by our engineering department to create 2D line drawings, for example presentation drawings for the customers, parts drawings for purchasing department and shop floor, assembly drawings for the welder/ fitters, etc. The software was used not only on conceptual designs but also detailed designs, to assist finding components interference
  • Making sketches
  • Calculating material usage
  • Nesting
  • Annotation style not easy to change
  • Extending command fails from time to time
  • Unresolved bugs affect performance
  • Saves initial investment
  • Spend more time on each stokes
  • Consider the frequency of using the software it is not a good investment
  • Almost can call it a stupid cheap choice
Absolutely can not compete, it is a night and day difference between this two software, although [DraftSight] claims they were equivalent, but the fact is not so. The reason why management pick the software is initially it bundled up with SOLIDWORKS as a free software, then why not. But now DraftSight becomes a stand alone product which does not share support team from SOLIDWORKS. The software dealer we use has removed DraftSight from their supporting list for obvious reason. It is not a good decision to begin with and next year we are going to reconsider on the subscription or go directly with 100% 3D
[DraftSight is] suitable for users occasionally reviewing or modifying 2D line drawings, this is a relatively inexpensive alternative than AutoCAD and is capable of accomplish similar tasks. Not suitable of handling large and complex 2D drawings, the response time, accuracy, UI and other aspects still at a basic level and can not compete with other high quality software
