Overall Satisfaction with SAP Ariba Procurement

SAP Ariba Procurement is used at a global corporate level to manage the purchasing process, from requisitioning all the way to invoicing. It's set up across two ERP systems in a suite integrated solution with a generic and an SAP variant. The business problems it helps us address are purchasing request approvals, three-way-match compliance, no-PO no-pay policy enforcement, and e-commerce invoice automation.
  • Document approvals engine: It's possible to set up approval flows for all document kinds as requisitions or invoices. The approval process designer is robust and mature solution--you can design approval flows without an IT team. Approving is also possible from email, mobile app, or using API.
  • Guided Buying: The procurement team can give guidance to requestors on how to buy what. Helps to go away from tribal knowledge. You can suggest preferred suppliers or catalogs for the requestors to use.
  • Easy integration with Ariba Network is a strong point for SAP Ariba Procurement. You can easily exchange the documents from your SAP Ariba Procurement with your suppliers.
  • Release stability/Insufficient testing: We have observed a few times that after SAP Ariba Procurement has a quarterly functional or monthly service pack release, the changes will cause functionality to break down or stop working.
  • Aging UI: the traditional SAP Ariba Procurement user interface is aging and not very friendly for casual users. To create purchase requisitions, it requires many fields and lots of clicks. The new guided buying is trying to address and simplify that but it doesn't yet have all the functionalities of the traditional UI.
  • As with most SAAS solutions, it reduced the need for an internal IT team.
  • Automation and consistency from requisitioning up to supplier invoicing.
  • Visibility and reporting; all procurement documents are accessible in one application.
  • You have to provide some sort of business support to end-users such as an SAP Ariba Procurement helpdesk.

Do you think SAP Ariba delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with SAP Ariba's feature set?

No

Did SAP Ariba live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of SAP Ariba go as expected?

No

Would you buy SAP Ariba again?

Yes

It's great for indirect spend--non-production goods and services.
I think it's less appropriate for production materials where you have a large number of PO lines and frequent PO changes. With that, the user can become limited by the UI.
