Overall Satisfaction with Camtasia

Camtasia is being used in two ways at our organization. First, for screen-recording, which is what it is probably most known for. It has become the industry standard for screen-recording over the last decade. Second, and probably most important to our organization, it has become our solution for entry-level video editing. Camtasia is a powerful video editor and it has filled a big need in our organization by allowing new users to quickly begin editing training videos. We are producing a large number of videos each year, but we only had a couple of people with editing skills using software like Adobe Premiere Pro, which has a high learning curve. Camtasia is more affordable and allows us to spin up additional editors on our team that create quality videos.
  • Screen Recording - Camtasia has all the tools that you need to create a professional screen-recording for your company.
  • Video Editing - Camtasia is a very competent video editor, especially for entry level users.
  • Training - Camtasia has a large online library of training videos that will get new users up and running quickly.
  • Video Editing Shortcuts - Camtasia does video editing so well that you quickly want to use more advance functionality like that found in Adobe Premiere Pro. However, Camtasia does not have some of the speed editing feature that you find in the more advance programs.
  • Stock Content - Camtasia comes with some stock music, titles, and transition, and although the library has grown over time, it still isn't up to some of the competitors.
  • Multi-track Timeline Functionality - Camtasia does have multi-track editing and it does work well for what it does, but it hasn't advanced much over time.
  • We have saved thousands of dollars on outside video editing fees by using Camtasia in-house.
  • We have saved hundreds of dollars in licensing fees by using Camtasia instead of subscription based licensing from Adobe.
  • We have increased our training output by enabling more of our trainers to begin editing videos using Camtasia.
Our advanced editors use programs like Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, but we only have about 5-6 employees that have that skill level. That isn't enough to support our video output. Camtasia allows everyone that is not at that level to create quality videos with a much lower learning curve.

Do you think Camtasia delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Camtasia's feature set?

Yes

Did Camtasia live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Camtasia go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Camtasia again?

Yes

Just this year I have recommended Camtasia to a handful of employees on our team. We actually combined our licensing to a Team account so everyone had access to the program. We needed everyone to have basic video editing skills on our training team and Camtasia is the best solution for that, especially on Windows where programs like iMovie are not available for free. Additionally, it lives in that sweet spot between basic programs like Windows Video Editor and Adobe Premiere Pro. We have had our trainers release professional-looking videos to our entire customer base using Camtasia to edit the videos.

Using Camtasia

15 - Our primary user group for Camtasia is our Learning & Development department. However, we also have users in I.T., Sales, and H.R. The latter three groups use it less often. Our training department is using it on a weekly basis to edit videos that are being released to our internal team of Sales and Service.
1 - I am the point person for our Team license for L&D and all other areas have individual licenses. We have several users that are advisors when questions arise about using the software. However, Camtasia has such a robust library of video training that there really isn't much support that needs to be done once it is deployed.
  • Screen Recording
  • Video Editing
  • Training Asset Creation
Each release of Camtasia has added just enough functionality to justify the upgrade to the new version. I like that Camtasia is not a subscription-based product as we have more flexibility and control over our spend on the product. We can also purchase support packages that include the next version when released.

Using Camtasia

Camtasia is one of the easiest video editing products that I have ever used. We have had people start using Camtasia and have their first edit done within the same day. Camtasia training videos are organized in a way that prioritizes the most basic skills first, so users can focus on that and then build on their skills when they have more time or the need arises.
