Overall Satisfaction with Skype

Skype has been used by both at the department level and across the whole organization. Since Teams have essentially replaced most of Skype implementations for collaboration, Skype is being used more on an individual basis. It addresses the business problems of having a really easy to use collaboration tool, both from a management standpoint and also a user standpoint.
  • It works good across multiple platforms. This is very important, since so many organizations are dealing with multiple/mixed OS's in their environments.
  • It works really well among different programs, as it integrates seamlessly especially with the MS Office suite. This is a benefit to users, since they can access Skype form within programs.
  • It is very easy to use, especially from a user standpoint. There is not really formal training that is required for users to be able to utilize this in their everyday work.
  • You really need a strong internet service connection to work with Skype, which helps when making video calls/conferencing, etc. Otherwise, weaker connections will lead to more issues with the above.
  • Skype needs to be more secure overall, as it has come under attack lately from hackers, intrusions, etc. This then leads to user information possibly becoming exposed, etc.
  • The platform needs to be more stable overall. As compared to some other collaboration software on the market, Skype does seem to have more stability issues overall.
  • It has a positive impact in that it has allowed users to still stay productive, without requiring upfront costs for training for users.
  • It has also led to less IT support overall, since it integrates really well across multiple platforms/OS's and within different programs, such as MS Office.
  • The biggest negative impact is that is not the most stable platform from a security standpoint, and also tends to have more stability issues than other collaboration tools out there.
Skype overall is easier to use than a lot of comparable collaboration tools on the market. It really doesn't require formal training to use, and most users get used to all the features of the platform pretty quick overall. Some other collaboration tools may offer more security features and the ability to set user permissions, etc. but with Skype it has most features that most users will use on a daily basis.

Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365), Google Hangouts Meet, Google Hangouts (Classic), Chrome Remote Desktop, Microsoft Project, Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, TeamViewer, Apple Remote Desktop, OneDrive, Microsoft System Center Endpoint Protection
It is well suited to organizations that want a collaboration tool that is easy to set up/deploy, and is easy to be used by users, without having them go through formal training to learn how to use the software. It is less appropriate in organizations that want a platform that has little to none stability issues, and is the most secure platform around.
