Overall Satisfaction with Hyper-V

We use Hyper-V as the main virtualization platform in our organization. The problem it addresses is the need to maximize the resources of our physical server.
  • Managing and distributing physical resources into different virtual servers.
  • The Hyper-V administrator interface could use some more features.
  • Could have a graphical log to check the usage of resources.
  • It is completely worthwhile because the license of Windows Server includes the possibility of installing two virtual machines.
  • Makes it possible to maximize the use of the owned physical resources.
  • Having separate virtual machines with different services makes the infrastructure more scalable.
  • If you need more than 2 virtual servers the costs grow a lot.
I used VMware vSphere at another company. However, for infrastructure with only two virtual machines, the VMware license cost is not worth it, because with the Windows Server Standard license you have the possibility to install two virtual servers at no extra cost.

Do you think Hyper-V delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Hyper-V's feature set?

Yes

Did Hyper-V live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Hyper-V go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Hyper-V again?

Yes

If you don't plan to have more than two virtual servers then Hyper-V is a great option, as it comes included within the Windows Server license. However, if your organization has a great number of virtual servers then you may have to consider other solutions, such as VMware.
