Overall Satisfaction with 8x8 X Series (Formerly Virtual Office)

8x8 X Series is our company's main VOIP system. Without it, we would not be able to receive calls from customers or vendors. Our calls come into our reception desk and then are routed to any respective team member. We also receive voice messages via our 8x8 system. Additionally, we utilize the meeting function as well.
  • Basic VOIP system - If you have internet and need a VOIP system, 8x8 can fit the bill.
  • Small Office Solution - I would recommend this for a business of 25 or fewer people.
  • 8x8 app - Receiving office calls on your mobile without having to forward your number is a great feature.
  • Voicemail - The number 1 question I receive from my users is how to check voicemail. The initial setup of voicemail is cumbersome.
  • Meetings plugin for Outlook - This plugin works by signing into Internet Explorer, which, depending on your environment, may or may not work well. In mine, it doesn't and causes problems.
  • Scalability - This solution is hard to scale in other areas, such as having a call center. Our call center is through 8x8 but takes way more than it should to set up each user. Simplicity is the key to scalability.
  • Time Wasted in Configuration - Configuring each account sometimes is a drastic time waste. (Hence, my vote for this as a small business solution.)
  • Mobile App - Ability to have office calls come to mobile without forwarding is a huge plus.
  • Voicemail - If the office can't get to voice messages, they can miss valuable clients, which can result in business loss.
We utilize the 8x8 Virtual Contact Center as well. However, setting up these accounts is torture. I have to configure each new Service or Parts tech to be added to the call queue. When performing this configuration, one of the most painful parts is each tech has to have 2 phone numbers. Without both numbers, the routing will not work properly.

I did not (and would not have) select this solution for our business. It was already in place when I started. We're awaiting the end of our "airtight" contract so we can move to an enterprise solution.
I rate this a "4" because the support is there and available, but sometimes they are not knowledgeable. This can be very frustrating when you have a very specific issue. However, friendliness and availability I believe are two strong points here. I've personally spent upwards of over an hour working on something with support then after getting off the phone with them and not resolving it, I figured out how to do it on my own.

Do you think 8x8 Work delivers good value for the price?

No

Are you happy with 8x8 Work's feature set?

No

Did 8x8 Work live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of 8x8 Work go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy 8x8 Work again?

No

I believe this VOIP system is great for small businesses that don't need a lot of phone management or metrics. Small offices of 25 or fewer people would get the best usage from a product like this.

In my opinion, medium and larger businesses can find much better products. I've used RingCentral and Vonage before, which work well in medium to large businesses.
