Overall Satisfaction with Abila MIP Fund Accounting

We use MIP Fund Accounting in the Finance Department, but every department manager in our organization relies on the information that we provide to them monthly by using reports out of the system. We can very easily tailor these reports to their needs so they get all the information they need and not a lot that they don't. I like that we can either send them a pdf or an Excel spreadsheet depending on their usage. Also, we can give them a comparison report, either monthly, quarterly or annually so they can track their departments progress.
  • There are multiple ways to look up previous information, so you can always find an easy one for you to find just what you need.
  • Each new employee that I train finds the system very intuitive, so it save both them and me time.
  • There are some very handy data entry tricks (i.e. F5 and F6 keys) that can get a large entry entered quickly. Or you can always import and entry.
  • I love that I can tailor the security settings for each user. It is easy to add more access as a new employee becomes more experienced.
  • I am not a fan of MIP's 1099 process. I find it easier to export the data I need and use a different 1099 software package.
  • I would like the ability/option to run an aged receivable report using unposted data.
  • With the latest upgrade I keep getting error messages when I try to change Organization Preferences. I am allowed to make the changes after I close (x out) each error message, and then I am kicked out of MIP. When I get back in I see that my changes were accepted. I hope this glitch gets fixed soon.
  • We would likely need a larger staff in the Finance department if we used a different accounting software that was less flexible than MIP Fund Accounting.
  • Annually we are required to complete some very detailed reports to outside sources. MIP Fund Accounting reporting abilities allow us to quickly pull that information. I believe that we achieve a large time savings over what we would have to spend if we used a different accounting software.
Like any nonprofit we have a variety of funds and some which are closely linked and others that are almost more like a separate entity. MIP Fund Accounting allows us the flexibility to group or ungroup funds very easily to fit our needs. We have some department managers that need to know what is going on within their department and they don't even know that we have them split into multiple funds. We can group all their activities to give them one concise report.
I had used MIP fund accounting in a previous job and was very happy with it. When I started with my current organization and found that they were already using MIP I was thrilled. I already knew that they had done the hard work of finding the very best solution to meet their accounting software needs. I've been here for over 12 years now and not once has anyone seriously considered switching do a different accounting package.
I work within the nonprofit community and so am familiar with people who try to make other software work with fund accounting when that is not its specialty. For many years I have told people that MIP has the best Fund Accounting software and they should seriously consider it. If I went to another non-profit organization that did not use MIP I would consider having them switch.

Our accounting code structure is very complex due to the wide range of reporting responsibilities that are required for our organization. MIP make it so easy to roll up data or key in on small segments very easily.
