Overall Satisfaction with Abila MIP Fund Accounting

Primarily it is used by the Finance department alone. We used to have access for other managers, but they didn't use it. We use MIP for our accounting software, and recently switched from their payroll system to another.
  • Financial reporting
  • Account reporting
  • Customized Reports
  • Payroll set up is very tricky.
  • Inter-location transfers are complicated.
  • Most changes are not done with the service teams, but outsourced to third parties.
  • The support we pay for annually seems less than interested in actually supporting the product.
  • We had to go to a third party for a major account coding structure change, and it still wasn't done correctly.
The primary benefit we have gotten from MIP is the detailed reporting. As long as the information is entered with detail we can pull reports very specifically. The detail has been fantastic for grant reporting, and some of our grantors have specifically commented on how our detail is better than many they get from other grantees.
QuickBooks Pro allows too much manipulation after the fact for audit friendly transactions. As much as it can be frustrating to redo an entry, at least I can clearly see any mistakes and the changes made to correct them in MIP.
Having the option to change the account coding structure is great, but it's not good when you want to migrate a large amount of data from one structure to another. The account coding structure is fantastic when coding income and expenses to grants. We're able to pull a lot of detail very easily.
