Overall Satisfaction with Abila MIP Fund Accounting
MIP Fund Accounting is a superb accounting solution to track the many facets of a community action agency. It is completely customizable to address the needs of various funding sources as well as being very user friendly.
- Since MIP is customizable, it can be configured to report on many different levels.
- Report setup is easy by using many of the "canned" reports.
- Distribution codes can be set up to repeat complex allocations.
- Some reports are only available at the "posted" level. It would be nice to have an "unposted" option on every report.
- The recurring transactions could be easier to use.
- In the allocation module, only three segments can be used. It would be nice if there were a few more options.
- When we moved from Blackbaud to MIP, the benefits were significant.
As a community action agency we are faced with the challenges of properly accounting for many funding sources on a daily basis. Our agency currently has over 25 grants from 10+ funding sources all with their own special reporting requirements. In my six years using MIP, I have not encountered any instance where the software has not been able to accommodate the various requirements. The key is in the GL setup. If that is done correctly, you will not encounter any difficulties satisfying any funding source reporting requirements.
- Blackbaud and GMS
I have used both Blackbaud and GMS prior to our implementation of MIP. Blackbaud is very clunky and not user friendly. I would never recommend Blackbaud as a non-profit accounting solution. GMS and MIP are both great products. The most important difference between GMS and MIP is that MIP is more customizable. GMS is limited in its GL segments. In MIP, you can have as many segments as you need. In my opinion, the segments are the key to the detailed, customizable reporting.
