Overall Satisfaction with AirWatch
I used AirWatch at a previous organization. It was used by the entire organization. Its intention was to be an MDM, which once you get past the bugs. It mostly did its job.
- It does nothing particular well. If you need to manage a lot of different devices (e.g. iOS, Android, Blackberry) and you only want to do it with one MDM, it will do it, but it will cause you a lot headache along the way.
- The entire platform. It is riddled with bugs and horribly annoying to get fixed. During our upgrade planning meetings we would spend DAYS just reviewing their bug list to identify everything that would break within our environment.
- The UI is completely inconsistent making it difficult to do the simplest of tasks
- Their API would break from upgrade to upgrade causing major compatibility issues with our internal tools.
- It requires a massive on prem server infrastructure. 300% bigger than our other MDM which was much more reliable.
- Negative only. Server infrastructure is 300% larger than our other MDM onsite.
- Airwatch required a team of 12 to support, versus our other MDM of 3 employees.
It was not my choice to go with AirWatch, had I been asked I would not have ever selected this product. This product single handedly caused me to look for a new job. The powers that be, which get paid way too much money, and know very little about technology selected it. The believed the sales pitch from VMware and ignored the rest. AVOID
