Overall Satisfaction with Alteryx

I used Alteryx, as part of a consulting team, to conduct demographic assessment for best ROI on potential new market advertising. We imported existing market penetration data (our customer address data), we assessed the customer demographics based on geocoding and found like demographic markets without market penetration to invest in advertising the product. It was a very successful endeavor. The ROI on these marketing dollars far exceeded other investments.
  • Alteryx handles data imports very well and give great feedback on the import process.
  • Alteryx is incredibly feature rich. I never found myself unable to manipulate data in the way I had hoped.
  • Alteryx provides great formats for export as well.
  • You cannot as a novice just play around and get started. The learning curve is very steep, rewarding, but steep. I can't help but wonder if the product would not benefit from a "light" version for less data-mining accustomed business managers.
  • Our assessment was ROI on advertising dollars spent between two markets sets, one honestly chosen based on a the gut choice of a VP, and the other based on the data result from our Alteryx project. The data provided by the Alteryx product resulted in a 20x ROI over the other set.
I personally have moved to a different position that does not require data analysis tools. I really enjoyed working with Alteryx and think it is a great tool, but have moved to a different organization and role.
My experience with Alteryx was very specific. We had a targeted goal and knew the precise data we wanted to work with. Alteryx is a fantastic tool if you already have data, want additional data to merge with for ultimately taking action or making assessments.

In other words, Alteryx is a fantastic data scientist tool to make data-based business decisions. But to be most effective, first you need to know what data you have, what data you want to find/incorporate and what the goal of the exercise is.
