Overall Satisfaction with Anaplan

We leverage Anaplan for various workstreams (automating data collection, forecasting, portfolio tracking, investor reporting, various fee and promot[ing] calculations, etc...). Being that Anaplan is extremely flexible, we can customize models for our specific business use cases, allowing us to standardize processes while providing users with a simplified user interface to navigate.
  • Eases the navigation of large datasets
  • Enables us to enforce controls around sensitive calculations
  • Allows us to scale our business processes
  • Checks are in place to prevent a user from building incorrect formulas
  • Easier administration of workspace access (they are working to improve this)
  • Easier access to model related data (they are working to improve this)
  • User controls (Model Selective Access / Workspace Access)
  • Application lifecycle management
  • Audit history
  • Standardized many processes across the firm
  • More efficient processes, freeing up the team to become more analytical

Anaplan can be utilized for a multitude of use cases, such as data collection and forecasting. There have been some use cases that I have encountered where I would advise someone to look into other systems (waterfall calculations and general ledger type of accounting.)

Using Anaplan

800 - Finance and Accounting are our main user group, followed by middle-office Operations.
30 - Understanding product functionality is key to assessing where Anaplan can be utilized and most beneficial to end users. Product understanding is also complimented by technical skills and the ability to develop models that will streamline processes and calculations for the business users. Lastly, although it is not necessary to build, it is helpful to have business knowledge surrounding the use case so that you can also propose enhancements to the use case and call out potential efficiencies provided through Anaplan functionality.
  • Data aggregation and standardization
  • Forecasting
  • Transaction transformation and tracking
  • Ability to create a full subledger
  • Ability to calculate complex waterfalls (although not recommended)
  • Continue to expand forecasting use cases
  • Continue to enhance HR tracking and compensation management
Anaplan has become a critical application utilized across the whole firm. We have transitioned many manual excel processes onto the platform and are beginning to really see the benefit of the "honeycomb" connectivity across models. A lot of time and effort has been put into this and it is now ingrained in many business processes.
