Overall Satisfaction with Anaplan

In my previous role as an FP&A manager for a $4.5 Billion company, we chose Anaplan for FP&A and WFP (Workforce Planning). Prior to Anaplan, we were using Excel, and the planning process would take 1,000's of hours. We chose Anaplan as it allowed for real-time updates and consistent assumptions to be used as well as enabled us to make changes in a matter of minutes instead of hours. The FP&A implementation included Volume Forecasting, Revenue, Freight, COGS, and SG&A expenses. Anaplan cut a significant amount of hours from the planning process and made the planning process much more accurate. I loved Anaplan so much I decided to leave my FP&A manager position, so I could help other companies [with] their implementations. In my current position, I aid other businesses in implementing Anaplan in a variety of use cases. I have guided, and designed implementations for FP&A, WFP, and ICM, and Anaplan can be used for so much more.
  • Allows users to use Consistent Assumptions
  • Changes such as price increases can be done in a matter of seconds versus hours using Excel
  • The graph display and KPI display options are endless
  • Calculations are real time
  • Completely customizable - Can create and use an unlimited number of fields all while using each business's own terminology and definitions
  • Workspace size can be an issue, but Anaplan is working on a solution
  • The options in Anaplan are endless which can be overwhelming
  • Limited number of knowledgeable builders, but the number is growing everyday
  • Customization
  • Continuity
  • Real time information
  • Data integration
  • I have seen ROI's be over $100,000
  • Allows time for more analysis as the calculations are instant and consistent
  • Tedious and mundane tasks are taken out of the equation with an Anaplan implementation which makes work more enjoyable
Anaplan is WAY more customizable, and the reporting capability in Anaplan is eons ahead of Oracle. Oracle has a predefined terminology and number of fields which can cause many companies to feel like they are trying to fit [a] square peg in a round hole. The reporting functionality (graphs and such) is an extra cost and is archaic and cumbersome in nature.

Well suited for:
  • FP&A: Including forecasting, scenario planning, and variance analysis for Volume, Revenue, COGS, and other expenses
  • Workforce Planning (WFP): Including forecasting, scenario planning, and variance analysis for headcount and labor costs, including benefits and taxes using various assumptions.
  • Incentive Compensation Management (ICM): Anaplan can aggregate and calculate compensation across a multitude of requirements and exceptions, all while also using various security levels [...] to keep data confidential.
  • Aggregation and Connecting Data Sets - Anaplan can be used for really any use case that involves aggregating data from multiple sources, connecting it, and logic and calculation can be added.
  • Simple Workflows

Not well Suited for:
  • Complicated workflow: Anaplan is a blank slate. If there is a use case that involves a lot of approvals and back and forth of approval and approval exceptions, this can be very cumbersome in Anaplan.
  • Not meant to be an ERP system: Data from a multitude of ERP systems can be imported into Anaplan, but Anaplan is not meant to replace these.
