Overall Satisfaction with Articulate

We currently use Articulate Storyline on the Instructional Design Team within our Learning and Organizational Development.

We use the software address the business problem to create high quality training solutions that are engaging and interactive while reducing development time and expenditures for third-party contractors. Using Articulate Storyline, we have able to solve all of those problems; creating much higher quality training materials in a fraction of the time with drastically reduced expense to the organization
  • Extremely versatile and powerful
  • Smallest learning curve with the lowest amount of bugs/errors with the software.
  • Excellent Customer Service
  • Invaluable user/staff community that promotes the sharing of knowledge and helping others to be successful with the software.
  • Only issue I have with the software is that I didn't hear about it sooner in my career.
  • Faster development of eLearning
  • Easy to create highly engaging content for learners
  • Improved overall team productivity
  • Adobe Captivate,Lectora
After trying all three of the major eLearning Authoring Tools available on the market, Storyline is the most versatile and empowering solution that I've found. The quality of the software is drastically improved by the high-caliber user community known as the eLearning Heroes Community. I'm confident that if you give this program a chance, you will be hard pressed to find a reason why it shouldn't be the number one tool in your eLearning development toolbox.
First off, Articulate doesn't require a contract for their software so this question is immediately mute.
I've had nothing but an amazing experience using all of Articulate's software in both my past and current position, I couldn't fathom recommending another tool, to be completely honest. It's caused no headaches or frustration that couldn't be immediately resolved using the eLearning Heroes community. There's really no other option in my book.

Evaluating Articulate and Competitors

  • Price
  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
  • Product Reputation
  • Prior Experience with the Product
My past experience with Articulate Studio greatly impacted my decision to purchase Storyline when it was released. I had such a great experience using their PowerPoint add-on solution that I couldn't pass up using a more robust tool from the same company.
No, I wouldn't change a thing about how we evaluated and selected to use Storyline.

Articulate Implementation

Implementing Articulate Storyline was a straight-forward and painless as humanly possible. There were no headaches found with other authoring tools not behaving well in existing systems, it really is excellently designed software. Everything was thought out so very well.
Change management was minimal - There really weren't any lessons to be learned in our implementation. We were just starting to bring elearning development in-house when I started and pushed for the purchase of Storyline. That really eliminated any necessary change management needs.

Articulate Support

The Articulate staff and user community converge into the invaluable resource known as the eLearning Heroes Community. You can go there for anything ranging from tech help, inspiration, and though provoking discussion. They don't just support you using the software, they support you in your career as an Instructional Designer or eLearning Developer, and no one else offers that on the same level as Articulate.

Yes - I elected to get the Platinum Support Plan with my original license due to the fact that for the 1 time cost you get top-tier engineer support on-demand and a free upgrade to the next major version. I haven't had to use the premium support much at all, but I would certainly buy it time and again just for the upgrades alone.
When we first purchased Storyline, our company was also in the process of implementing a new LMS/Talent Development system. One of the first projects that we tried to launch in the new LMS did not work as intended, and our LMS vendor said that it was a problem with our authoring tool. Since I had the Platinum Support, I opened a ticket and engaged their tech support. After sending them my project file, Articulate's engineers quickly identified that the problem was not with the authoring tool and were able to identify exactly what was causing the issue in our LMS. They took it one step further and helped us to resolve the issue with the LMS itself, going out of their way to support a system that was out of the scope of their support package. Since that point in time, I haven't had to open another ticket and I'll never forget that support experience.

Using Articulate

I've worked with people that have literally never designed eLearning before, and showing them a few things in Articulate Storyline has changed their world. They have gone from paper-based ILT only designers to the "total package" with very little need for instruction or support. I've never seen that happen with the other options on the market.

Yes - The mobile player works well for web-based publishing of eLearning, but the LMS limitations rest entirely with our particular LMS vendor. If they supported the TinCan API, we'd be able to implement mobile learning that could be tracked in the LMS.
