Overall Satisfaction with Articulate Storyline

I've been using Articulate Storyline as the primary element on nearly all of the projects I work on. Its flexibility to customize interactions allows me to use it in designing/delivering soft skills training as well as healthcare and technical-related projects. Although I use other tools, having a single tool that can deliver at so many levels helps increase my proficiency with the tool which reduces the overall time to design and deliver quality products.
  • If you can dream it, you can most likely create it in this product. It is very flexible and intuitive.
  • By using triggers, variables, and states, you have the ability to harness design capabilities that would otherwise require a high level of programming expertise.
  • Integrating audio, video and animations into a module/course is very simple.
  • Its interface is very easy to use and understand.
  • I think they are working hard on this area but there is still some room for improvement in the HTML 5 to ensure it works consistently across multiple browser platforms and mobile devices.
  • Provide more options for the look/feel of the player. Include a built-in option for a "transparent player" instead of having to go in and change the transparency settings to achieve a transparent player effect.
  • The ability to edit graphics (since it is integrated with PowerPoint) from within Storyline itself would be a nice addition.
  • A more robust audio editing tool which allows you to edit (cut/paste, fade in/fade out audio, etc.) in a more intuitive way.
  • Cuts Production Costs: Its flexibility allows me to reduce development costs by eliminating the need to purchase additional software.
  • Increases Productivity/Customer Satisfaction: Their support system (both technical and community) has ensured I have very little downtime if I run into a problem. This allows me to maintain our delivery schedule to clients.
  • Time to Proficiency: With the community samples as well as tutorials provided by Articulate, I felt it was very easy to come up to speed on this product and begin to generate customized deliverables for my clients which translated to increased revenue for both of us.
  • Captivate
I've found that Storyline is more intuitive than Captivate and allows for more customization when it comes to quizzes and interactions. Its ability to customize the player as well as LMS support is what I think makes Storyline a better option for most. Although both products are great, I think the learning curve for Storyline is much shorter. With that being said, one should not forget that both of these are just a "means to and end". In other words, using either one of these will not in itself produce content that makes a difference within your organization. It's the person behind the tool that can and will determine the quality of the deliverable!
Customizing interactions is one of its strongest points. Again, if you can dream up the interaction, there is probably a way to use triggers, variables, conditions and states to achieve it. Although the initial learning curve is a little steep, if you put in the time, you can really get the power out of the tool to accomplish some really great things! Their community is a great place to shorten the learning curve quickly.

Articulate Storyline Support

I've engaged with their support three times since I've owned the product. Each time, I was treated very professionally and the issues were addressed quickly. Even in situations where the problem was not due to their software, their engineers were able to assist and get the project back on track.

No - I've found that by using the Articulate Community I don't require the need for premium support. I've been able to get any of my issues resolved through posting on the community board. In fact, those answers usually come within about 10 minutes of posting. I think if I needed something more "mission critical", I would not hesitate to purchase their premium support.
Yes - Yes. Their response has also been acceptable to me.
I once had a situation where a product I delivered to a client was not performing well on their LMS. After working with one of the Articulate engineers, I was able to gain access to advanced diagnostic testing and determine the source of the problem. It turned out to be a problem with the client's learning management system (LMS). This was all done in a very courteous and professional way. It was also handled very promptly by the Articulate engineer!
