Overall Satisfaction with Avalara

Avalara is being used in our company to calculate sales tax on our e-comm website. As a manufacturer focused primarily on wholesale transactions, the shift to B2C is a large undertaking, especially for sales tax compliance. We have nexus in all states, so Avalara has been key to collecting the correct sales tax from our consumers

  • Reporting when not using the filing service.
  • Positive -- We are collecting accurate tax with reasonable confidence.
  • Reporting is lacking due to our lack of use of Avalara to file returns.

More user training would be great. We were repeatedly told that reporting was unavailable due to us not using the filing features, but recently found out we've had access all along to very useful reports.

I haven't personally used or researched others.
Avalara is best suited for companies with broad nexus and/or rapid growth. CertCapture is excellent for companies that have a large number of wholesale customers as well as retail customers.
Avalara is less appropriate if you don't know where you have nexus, or always have a tax professional review before registering in new states.

Avalara Implementation

Implementation should involve more time taken to see where a company has legitimate nexus. Consumers with little to no knowledge clicking boxes of states/localities can cause unneeded sales tax liabilities.

Avalara Reliability

There is no change that has to happen as your company grows, Avalara continues to do it's job for any size company
We've never had an outage in 4 years that we've been customers. Avalara has always been available and consistent.
Avalara works great, consistently.
