Overall Satisfaction with Azure Backup
We have been using Azure Backups for the last 2 years, since we started migrating VM workloads to Azure. It's an excellent (and obvious) choice for 'simple' VM backups as it is very easy to implement and to administer.
As a native feature from Azure, its integration to Microsoft products (such as Windows VMs and Azure SQL instances) is very good and reliable. It has a friendly user interface, compatible with the Azure visual identity and usage. Its implementation/initial configuration is straightforward, even for those who don't have much experience implementing and managing backup environments.
Different from the more complex backup platforms/implementations, Azure Backup runs pretty well... We have almost zero 'backup job' failures. It just completes successfully every time.

- Relatively good backup performance.
- Backup granularity (choose only some folders/files to backup).
- Application awareness/consistency backups.
- Better visualization of policies/schedules (it is not practical to go VM to VM to check the applied schedule).
- Reports and metrics.
- It allowed us to have our VMs protected very quickly and with simple implementation.
- It saved us from taking backups from Azure workloads from the on-prem environment, or even deploying a Backup environment on the cloud.
- It has a low/'controlled' cost as you "pay-as-you-go."
- Veeam Backup & Replication and Commvault Complete Backup & Recovery
I won't say Azure Backup stacks up against these mentioned backup solutions, they're just for different approaches/implementations.
Depending on your requirements, you may have a mix of Azure Backups for 'simpler' backups and another backup tool for the most complex applications or more granular backups.
