Overall Satisfaction with Azure HDInsight

It is currently being used as a cloud service to process large amounts of data. We can choose from a wide variety of open-source frameworks like Spark, Hadoop, R, Hive, etc. Our team uses these tools to perform ETL, Data Warehousing, etc. Both historical and real-time data can be processed. Azure Machine learning can also be used on top of these to extract meaningful information from data.
  • It is low cost and scalable.
  • Almost 99 percent SLA at large scale.
  • Transparent data encryption for end to end security.
  • More than 30 popular applications to choose from. These can be deployed to the cluster within minutes.
  • Spark version is old and crappy.
  • Lack of integration with other Azure platforms.
  • There is more room for improvement in workload based scaling.
  • Not easy to use. Log report hardly shows anything and the interface is not user friendly.
  • Very cost effective and, hence, has saved a lot of money in terms of infrastructure.
  • Reduction in costs involved in data centers.
  • There has been a lot of performance improvements as well.
As Azure HDInsight is cloud-based, expert management is required, which is not necessary for Databricka. Moreover, Databricks is much easier to use. The one area where HDInsight is good is the availability of several clusters, whereas in Databricks we get only Spark-type clusters.
We work within the features and functionalities of Azure. Up until now, we are satisfied with the product.
HDInsight is not easy for users. The UI is not user friendly. But overall, it is a Microsoft product and the features that come along with it come at a very low cost.

1. Batch processing to transform data and then use the same data for data science.
2. Write queries in petabytes over any data format.
3. Processing of real-time data for the Internet of things.
4. Predicting future trends through Azure Machine Learning.
