Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use 2 Barracuda devices for backups of our Primary VMware server and remote servers. It runs daily incremental backups on the company's shared files and weekly backups of the entire server environment. We use it along with weekly VMware backups for baremetal recovery.

Pros and Cons

Works well with VMware.
Easy file recovery for directories and files.
Quick restore for basic Virtual machines.
Great for roll back instead of snapshots.

Sometimes the cloud interface times out.
Have had one flashed dead with firmware, was replaced.

Return on Investment

Recovery time for files in minutes, easy directory structure.
Simple and easy to use.
Can build in schedules and run manual or automatic depending on needs.

Alternatives Considered

Veeam Backup & Replication

Felt like Veeam was pushy during the eval and could not verify it would work with our older VMware version.

Support Rating

They are always quick to get you routed to a tech support person and always get follow up after contacting them. Last experience was amazing, she adjusted my boxes and they perform even better. I cannot say enough about the support. We had some trouble with one of the windows servers leaving the volume shadow copy out there and would fail. They worked with us to adjust and get working. After that it has been months since I have had to do anything with the server to keep the backups running.

Likelihood to Recommend

Better then tapes and bad Windows software that does not do the quality of backup this device can provide. Cost is higher than most but tech support is super. Easy implementation for VMware, clients are light.
