Overall Satisfaction with BigCommerce
BigCommerce has many great functions for an internet e-commerce website. We were able to deploy it very rapidly from our previous e-commerce hosting company, and BigCommerce is so easy to use that individuals with very minimal training at my office were able to pick up on it right away. We use it for our e-commerce website, as well as a great deal of other functions, like order tracking.
- Very intuitive and simple in the eyes. It is so easy to pick up that we had individuals at our company start using it with minimal training.
- Above all, BigCommerce is quite robust, and has a great deal of tools "under the hood," as well as having a great app store.
- BigCommerce is very customizable, and following their templates is not required, as anything can be customized.
- Compared to their competitors, BigCommerce offers more reliability, as we have had zero downtime since signing on with them.
- Tech support is a pain with BigCommerce. As much as I enjoy their software, be ready to wait for days for their tech support to get back to you.
- The free templates that BigCommerce offers are so basic that they might as well not offer them. I understand they are starting points for a website, to build from something that's not scrach, but I've seen much better free templates by their competitors.
- BigCommerce is third-party app dependant. Any website built with BigCommerce has to have several apps from their app store just to get up and running.
- After switching to BigCommerce from our previous platform, we saw a large increase in sales and traffic due to the better SEO tools BigCommerce offers.
- BigCommerce allowed us to bring down hosting costs, since they host our website and we do not have to have our website hosted on third-party websites.
- Overall, BigCommerce also allowed us to pay fewer Amazon/Ebay fees, as it has allowed us to sell more directly on our website.

The customization was done through developers we found through BigCommerce. While not many developers work with BigCommerce, the company themselves make it very easy to find developers to work on a website, and it also has a rating and accreditation system, making it even easier to find developers to work on our website. We were able to tinker with quite a few things on BigCommece to allow us to make our website to look exactly the way we wanted.
Compared to Shopify, which is the biggest competitor to BigCommerce, we had several meetings with Shopify and then considered going with Shopify Plus. We realized that while Shopify is more user-friendly, it also costs significantly more than BigCommerce, and I did not like how basic Shopify is. Going with Shopify would mean a much bigger reliance on the app store. We were former users of Magento and Yahoo as well, and both of those platforms pale in comparison to BigCommerce. Magento requires a developer to do everything while Yahoo is a terrible e-commerce tool that has become extremely outdated and unusable. I recommend BigCommerce over all the other e-commerce platforms after our experiences with them.

When we initially launched, we did not have SSL certificates on our website. A BigCommerce rep made me aware of it actually, and saved me a headache of having to find out later on.
