Overall Satisfaction with Canto

Canto has helped us to share assets across the team in an organised fashion. I love the ability to tag and sort the images as we see fit and use the custom tagging features to ensure the team can search by whatever is easiest for them. You can easily find all assets for a particular product by searching for that product name, or all content featuring the same model. It's also been helpful in the post-production process for shoots, whereby we can have conversations with the photographer via Canto comments. This has saved a lot of back and forth! The team loves it and it's made our lives a lot easier since we've been using it.

  • Reduced cost for additional admin/contributor profiles would be nice. As our team grew, we needed more but the cost feels a bit high for more people to be added with this access level.

We haven't used anything other than Canto so I can't compare but we haven't been tempted to leave Canto so far, which tells me it's doing a great job as it meets our needs.

Canto has been really helpful for custom tagging so that anyone in the marketing team, or wider business, can quickly and easily find the images or videos they need by searching in the way they want to - e.g. by product name or model name. It has improved our post-production process as we can easily have conversations with the photographer using the comments section to pinpoint what we are talking about, rather than having lengthy email exchanges with screenshots.

Evaluating Canto and Competitors

Yes - We used to use google drive but it was so tricky to find the right assets without being able to tag. We needed something more intelligent. We wanted people to be able to search by all manner of details to do with that asset - model name, product name, colour, etc. Google Drive was limited in that respect.

The most important factor for us when choosing a digital asset management platform like Canto was for it to deliver what we needed - easy to use asset organisation and search. We wanted to save the team time in searching for the assets they needed, be able to find the most appropriate asset, and generally organise assets.
I would understand the user profiles better - I wish we could have more people with admin capabilities (ie who can upload images and see those unapproved) without having to pay for more profiles of this tier. I thinkt that's a little expensive. But generally I'd approach the search in the same way as I did all those years ago.
