Overall Satisfaction with Canto

We previously used a VPN and internal server to store our digital assets. They were organized by folder and pretty much unsearchable. We had many versions of the same image in different resolutions. Sharing was difficult and we had to use other third party apps like wetransfer to send images. Canto replaces all of this with cloud-based access. We only need 1 version of an image (the original high res) and we can search quickly with the meta data. We can watermark images for outside use automatically. Canto has solved many problems.
  • Allowing users to download a resized version of an image self serve (eg. for social media)
  • Sharing collections where recipients can see and download high res images
  • Tagging to make searches very simple and eliminate complete folder structures
  • Tag all info about an asset in the data rather than trying to name images with this data
  • Seeing a path for collection images
  • sometimes in an upload link the only way to return to the main library is manual adjustment of the URL
  • More permission levels available.. not just Consumer or admin
  • Portals - for external users like resellers
  • tagging and custom field tagging to control how tags are consistently used
  • download options so users can be self serve
  • Covid: We all worked from home. It was a major impact for us to stop using a sketchy VPN that is slow and painful. We all became so much more efficient in our work.
  • Sharing assets: Our company has grown substantially in the past 3 years. Having Canto means that we can easily share assets with our worldwide divisions. We are leading the way on this as the companies we acquired are using archaic servers. We will bring everyone in the Canto world to better manage our assets.
  • Control: Prior to Canto, people were misusing images - not using the right ones, not using watermarks. Now it's all preventable and we are seeing better quality images used appropriately.
I have no complaints. I think the training was great. The built in help and videos were very good. I watched a lot of them because I wanted our team to use best practices in setting up our implementation. Support questions were answered quickly.
I have not used other DAMs. I have used Dropbox. which I do not like at all. DB is just a folder system that adds tagging. It's bulky and not a DAM at all to me.

I've already recommended and I will continue. I found it very easy to figure out. We're not using it for video much as I am concerned about how fast we'll fill up our storage limit.
