Cisco ASA Review
Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Software
Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance's (ASA) is a good firewall and provides lots of features to protect your network from outside network to inside network. The default behavior of the [Cisco ASA] is to block all connections from outside traffic from entering a network. We are using the Cisco ASA 5525 Series Firewall in our organization and we are using this device for routing, virtual private network, NAT, etc. We have also configured a site-to-site VPN with our client for secure communication.
Pros
- Both site to site and remote VPN support
- IPV4 and IPv6 support
- Stateful filtering firewall
- All routing protocols support
- Clustering
- Support ASA failover
- Modular policy framework
- IKEv1 and IKEv2 support
- Reporting
- Logging
Cons
- Advanced level security missing like layer 7 security
- Lots of issues with UI
- ASDM is not user friendly
- Configuration through ASDM is very complicated
- Technical support is great
- Many documentation and training videos are available
- Easy to configure
- Easy to deploy in existing network
- Easy to configure through command-line interface
Previously we were using open source pfSence, and we faced lots of issues. Lots of features and options are missing in pfSense so we purchase the [Cisco ASA] 5525 Series Firewall and we are happy with [the] features and technical support. Lots of documentation and training videos are available. We [faced no] issue during installation time and CLI commands are very easy in this firewall.
