Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Software
We deploy Cisco ASA devices for our clients. We are an MSP (managed service provider) and use Cisco ASA devices for about 90% of our clientele. We deploy Cisco AnyConnect for VPN connections and use VPN tunnels between locations. Cisco ASA devices are very efficient at keeping unwanted traffic out of our managed networks.
Pros
- AnyConnect Remote VPN
- NAT functionality
- Site-to-Site VPN tunnels
- DHCP
- LDAPS support
Cons
- ASDM is still based on Java, not easy to install on newer operating systems
- Not very user friendly for beginners
- ASDM can be difficult to navigate
- Cisco tech support is very good both in knowledge and response times
- For the price, the Cisco ASA devices can last a very long time
- Forums are free and offer very good suggestions and advice
Fortinet and SonicWall firewalls are not without their own unique merits, but Cisco ASA devices are our go-to devices for all of our clients' firewall needs. We have found creating and keeping VPN tunnels established is much easier on a Cisco ASA device.
