Great Management/WAN Wwitch
Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst 2960-L Series Switches
- Catalyst 2960-L Series
We primarily use the 2960's for our Management switches as well as our printer and wifi switch. The 2960 that we use as our management switch, we connect all of our other switches, routers, FW's management ports into this switch. This means, we can route through this one switch and be able to reach all of our devices.
- Switching
- Basic Routing
- A lot of features for the price
- Software upgrade for DNA management
- Great impact for device management
- Great for our Wireless environment
- Great for WAN switching
We use our 2960 switches for basic switching and device management. We don't use these for automation, virtualization, or analytics. We have DNA center in our environment and mainly use cat 9k's for our cores, distribution layers, and access layer switches. We mainly do our automation and analytics with DNA.
We greatly benefit from the advanced customization and manageability with our 2960's. We use some advances switching features, as well as some basic routing features as well. We don't do any routing on our WAN switches, but we do routing on our management switches that connect to the management interface on all of our other networking devices.
These 2960's are great switches for management, wireless, and WAN implementations. I could see these switches being used as access layer switches as well. There are some benefits for the 2960 over other switches, but I'll leave those advantages to Cisco, as they know the in's and out's better than a user such as myself.
