Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst 6800 Series Switches

We use the 6880s as our aggregation switches for our 10GB fiber ring for our NY locations. We have 5 locations connected by dark fiber. We have dual 6880s for redundancy.
  • Reliable
  • Cost effective.
  • Durable
  • Great ROI.
  • EOL/EOS length of time.
  • Complex at times to configure.
  • Cisco TAC can we quite challenging at times.
  • We've had our 6880s in place for years without interference.
  • The 6880s in our environment are not in ideal environmental situations, and they just keep on running.
  • We picked these switches to to suit a need. And they've paid us back in dividends.
We implemented VSS on our switches to turn them into one logical switch, which gave us needed redundancy and reliability.
We used the advanced customization features to create a VSS between our dual Catalyst 6880s. This provided streamlined administration and monitoring.
We didn't look at another vendor. I've been using Cisco Switches for over 20 years. They have never disappointed or let me down. One of my first Directors told me, "no one gets fired for buying Cisco products". 20+ years later, that statement still rings true.
