Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst 9100 Access Points

Cisco Catalyst Switches are used in our organization to enable communication at the client end and enable high-speed, reliable communication between clients and uplinks to our router and data center. In conjunction with the switches, we use the Catalyst range of wireless access points, which enable us to provide reliable, secure, and segmented wireless access.
  • Reliability--Once correctly set up, there are very few things that go wrong with these.
  • Management--Although complex, which is how enterprise products are, the APs have a logical management feature set.
  • Industry-standard compatibility--There will be very few vendors who say that they don't support Cisco APs.
  • GUI--I find the few available GUIs are not up to the standard that some other vendors, such as Ubiquiti, or even Cisco's own Meraki range are.

  • Compatibility with other vendors is the greatest advantage.
  • Brocade ADX (Discontinued)
I have briefly evaluated the Brocade range of switches, and although they are very good value, I found that they didn't have the same range of compatibility and available expertise from other vendors in order to be able to troubleshoot issues.
Cisco Switches are most suited to larger organizations. Small networks would not really benefit from the large cost outlay and would be better off with a switch from a lower tier of Cisco's product line, or something from another manufacturer. For the 9120 range of Access Points, I would say that if you are an organization that has hardware that supports the latest WiFi 6 or the 802.11AX standards, then it is definitely worth considering getting these.
