Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst 9200 Series Switches

9200 is the successor of most common access switches in our company and also in many other businesses— 2960 series. All new implementation is based on this model and we are successively replacing all obsolete devices with 9200. Like the 2960 series, those are trustworthy switches, stable and useful in various environments. Moreover, with full DNA support, they are easier to manage and automate, which is very beneficial for IT departments.

  • Stable L2 network
Automation and programmability are among the best features of Cisco 9200 switches. We are trying to get most of them on each phase of use, starting from the simple and automated onboarding process, through initial configuration and security hardening. Hardware and configuration maintenance is much easier with DNA. Most time consuming is template preparation, but after that, you can just apply it on all requested switches.
As I stated earlier, manageability is one of the most important features. The whole process of configuration and maintenance is simplified and automated with DNA. We can leverage their manageable features to further adapt them to the specific needs of the production environment. The whole infrastructure is based on those switches and DNA allows you to get more with less effort.
Cisco 9200 Series Switches are the natural successor of the 2960X series, so they are getting what best from them and adding automation and DNA integration features. So it's hard to compare both of them. In the past, I had several opportunities to test network devices from other vendors but none of them have the same level of manageability and integration level as 9200.
We are operating in manufacturing areas and those switches have a really good hardware design that allows them to work there. Even if they are not industry hardened, they are working well in dusty and moist areas. From the software side, they are pretty well manageable via DNA, so if you are planning to have a high standard and easy to maintain network, this is the best option.
