Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst Switches

As a Presales Engineer, I always recommend using the Cisco Catalyst 9200 Series Switches as Access switches either as stand-alone or as a stack.

Pros

  • Stacking
  • Power over Ethernet support
  • Stable IOS-XE

Cons

  • To add a GUI
  • To reduce the DNA period
  • To provide simpler management and monitoring solution other than DNAC.
  • Cisco Switches in general are expensive compared to other vendors such as Aruba or Fortinet.
  • Cisco DNA on Catalyst is a bit expensive and can increase the overall price of the switch.
To be honest, in the market of Saudi Arabia, we did not receive request for such advanced features.
We always recommend that our customers use Cisco Stacking (both data and power), however, when it comes to more advanced management solutions we recommend third-party solutions such as Manage Engine due to Cisco Management products' high price.

Do you think Cisco Catalyst Switches delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Cisco Catalyst Switches's feature set?

Yes

Did Cisco Catalyst Switches live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Cisco Catalyst Switches go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Cisco Catalyst Switches again?

Yes

Cisco Catalyst Series in general are very powerful and trustworthy switches. The C9300 series can always be deployed as Core switches (especially the C9300-X series). The Cisco Catalyst 9200 Series Switches is the perfect fit for access layer switches. The higher Catalyst Series such as C9400 and C9500 can always be used as Core and ToR switches.
