Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst 9300 Series Switches

We use [Cisco Catalyst 9300 Series Switches] as a Core network infrastructure. We connect them across the WAN to 2 locations. We use them as our routers as well, which allows us a better ROI whenever we are considering what we need to buy for our different data centers. This way we don't need an extra piece of routing equipment.
  • vlan creation and management
  • Routing
  • ISCSI San
  • Creating VLCs to keep things redundant
  • I wish they had the Nexus OS instead of the IOS
  • By default they have Jumboframes but it isn't listed with a show run. this makes it a challenge.
  • Stacking them can be challenging.
  • The cost is huge
  • The speed of these is very high, which makes it easier to set them up as the primary switches
  • Their ability to be used as routers is a good bang for the buck.
We use these as the core of our virtual networks and it functions well as this. We are also able to use VLCs to be able to make everything redundant. It saves time because we can centrally manage them and copy paste the configs whenever we need to add more of these into the rack.
We use some of the advanced customization and manageability. We use it to add our own vlans for each port and to route traffic between networks. We do not customize any user interface or anything like that though. We also use different SNMP traps and monitor the netflow usage on them.
The Cisco Meraki are ridiculous. They are okay for the closet switches but we once had them as core switches. This makes for nightmarish weekends of outages as we had problems with them reaching the internet as they also held all of our core routing. The Cisco Nexus is a fine product however.
