Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Cisco Firepower 1000 Series is being used across my organization. We have a total of 15 branches, and they all use Firepower 1000 Series as the firewall. It elevates the cost of using MPLS. We just need a cheap internet line with decent speed to set up a VPN tunnel and it's good to go.

Pros and Cons

VPN tunnel is very easy to set up using Firepower Management Center.
Reusable Objects make things easier to configure and understand.

The Dashboard is not as diverse and customizable.
Lack of option to automatically backup FTD config

Return on Investment

Being able to reduce the amount of money spent on MPLS is a huge ROI for the company.

Simplified Administration

If there are issues in connectivity or traffic flow, I can troubleshoot the problem pretty quickly and resolve it right away. With a simple virtual packet flow, the firewall provides enough information to know where the problem is.
Also, because of its simplicity, it is easier for a junior network administrator to learn and master it.

Performance

I examine the malware threat every day and see that the Firewall is able to block all the malicious IP addresses without being so aggressive that users start complaining about access.

Support Rating

Cisco TAC support is very helpful. Whenever I have a problem, they will make sure the problem is resolved before closing the ticket.

Alternatives Considered

Cisco Firepower 1000 is a big competitor with other big brands out there. I enjoy using it and will recommend it to others over other brands because of familiarity.

Likelihood to Recommend

Cisco Firepower 1000 Series is a good overall firewall. It is well suited for a small or medium-sized company. Due to its small amount of RAM, I don't recommend it to be used as the Core Firewall. If there are too many NAT statements, or the NAT statements include broad range of IP addresses, the firewall will crash! I learned this the hard way.
