Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Intersight

Cisco Intersight is currently being used by our organization for hardware monitoring and management. We currently monitor all of our physical servers using Cisco Intersight. We were using Cisco's IMC Supervisor solution and have migrated to Intersight. We also use Cisco Intersight to upgrade the firmware and software on our physical host. Cisco Intersight HCL allows us to easily confirm that our server hardware is running the correct version of firmware and drivers.

  • Automatic TAC case creation is hit or miss
  • Quicker refresh rates when applying changes
  • Needs ability to easily add widgets to the dashboard
  • Some of the functions and features are hard to find
  • Cisco licensing is somewhat confusing
  • A basic license comes with the server purchase
  • Some features require the purchase of an additional license
  • Having the application is the cloud saves internal resources.
We use the Dell OpenManage product previously when we were using Dell servers. Cisco Intersight has much more capabilities than Dell OpenManage had in the past. I haven't used any other product lately which would allow me to compare the features. We use What's up gold for up/down monitoring but It doesn't have the firmware update features.
I have had servers TAC cases open for issues with Cisco Intersight. Some have yet to be resolved. One case that is still open is where the HCL status ( Hardware Compatibility List ) shows not validated when It should be. We have several servers that have the exact same hardware, OS, and the same firmware. One server will show the HCL is not validated but all others will.

We haven't needed or used the embedded analytics feature of this product. When we do I'll be sure to update my review.
Cisco Intersight is very well suited for doing firmware upgrades across all of your cisco hardware. So far we have had no problems pushing out new firmware. It's also well suited for hardware management. Cisco TAC has the ability to pull logs for the IMC for themselves, which saves you from having to pull the logs yourself and then uploading them to the case. It may or may not be appropriate for upgrading operating systems. I have not been able to test it.
