Cisco IP Phone 7800 Series

Overall Satisfaction with Cisco IP Phones

The Cisco IP 7800 Series phones were sold to our customers as part of a CUCM installation, and also used internally by our staff. They are a great modern phone that work well with the Cisco CUCM platform and also when controlled by Jabber. As many office workers move to soft phones, a physical phone is still very useful for role-based requirements (e.g. retail sites) and high-use users (e.g. call centres).
  • PoE equipped with energy-efficient options too; also can pass through PC traffic so only one cable required to a desk
  • All models have speakerphone function and the ability to connect a headset.
  • Most models have a detachable bezel allowing your corporate logo to be "printed" onto the phone.
  • Bluetooth and Wifi are not native to these phones. Cisco has some other models with those options.
  • The extra buttons on a 7861 need handwritten labels beside them.
  • The physical function keys use icons not words (e.g. hold key is a pause symbol), which means no need to change for different languages but some users might not interpret the pictures correctly.
  • Customers that have bought these have loved them resulting in improved satisfaction with our company.
  • The hardware is reliable; we don't get many faults from our internal users so once configured they need little work.
  • Cisco have their own security team advising of any relevant exploits so you can be confident to deploy these in sensitive areas.
The Cisco IP Phone 8800 Series have more advanced features, like built-in video cameras and Bluetooth for example, but that comes at an extra cost. As such, the Cisco IP Phone 7800 Series are used for the bulk of the users, but some executives may want the extra features offered in the Cisco IP Phone 8800 Series.
With an active support contract from Cisco we have never had any issues in resolving problems. Such problems are normally around the CUCM that the phones register to, rather than the phone itself. Cisco also releases new phone firmware on a regular basis which can include security fixes and sometimes new features.

The Cisco IP Phone 7800 Series works well in most situations. Our default offering is the 7821 as it suits well for most, the second line key can become an extension mobility login or other features. It also works well in a call center environment. The 7861 would be offered to executive assistants or receptionists that need numerous speed dial keys. The 7832 conference phone is only suitable for smaller conference rooms as it doesn't allow for external mics to be added.
