Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Meraki MV

We are a Cisco distributor that sells the MV cameras, I use them in demonstration purposes. A Lot of the times, we like to push these products out not just as physical security but as an endpoint that also serves as an IOT device. IT's great when we demo them to showcase how it can solve security issues such as seeing the difference between a person and a video and having a single pane of glass for mangement with the cameras on the Meraki dashboard.

Pros

  • It uses AI for object detection as I talked about earlier, being able to detect people vs. cars...
  • Single pane of glass management in the Meraki Dashboard
  • Installation is as easy as plug and play
  • Searchable video insight for data such as motion or people detection

Cons

  • The cameras need a bigger PTZ range.
  • Needs to have external cloud backup in addition to the meraki dashboard like a One drive or your own NAS.
  • Multiple camera playback at the same time is limited
  • Positive: Takes less time to review footage as the AI motion search allows for our customers to not have to wander through footage.
  • Positive: All in one software with the security cameras has let one of our customers increase their ROI but $10,000 annually as they no longer have to purchase separate monitoring software for security, it's all integrated.
  • If you're looking to save money out of the gate, this could technically be a negative impact as this solution does cost a little bit to get going with the cameras and the licenses, but they are multi year licenses (Which include support) that allow for you to incorporate your security for 3, 5 , 7 or 10 years into the future.
Single pane of glass management. Being able to manage your cameras, your access points, your firewalls etc within the meraki dashboard. It was also just announced too that Cisco Catalyst switches will now also be managed in the cloud making it more or a One Cisco mission. Th ease of deployment makes the MV's easier to implement, instead of 5 hours we are up in running in 10-15 minutes, giving more time for our IT teams to focus on other pressing issues.
Integrating the access points and switches really gives a high level overview of the entire network. You're looking at the physical access layer and then looking at the mobile devices and wireless devices that are using WIFI, then being able to have security cameras (MV's) that are providing valuable physical security, and then you're managing it all from the same place. Less time to support and more time to do other things is a key benefit
I gave it a 9 because nothing in life is perfect. It can scale by adding multiple cameras into the meraki dashboard without having to install physical servers. The licenses are co-termed so you can manage a large number or cameras, even if you wanted to add on later in your lifecycle. You can setup different templates for the MV's and Tag them for different departments making it easier to support them. They also have API access if you're looking to integrate with other 3rd party systems
I don't have any experience with any other security camera, just using the Meraki MV cameras

Do you think Cisco Meraki MV delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Cisco Meraki MV's feature set?

Yes

Did Cisco Meraki MV live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Cisco Meraki MV go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Cisco Meraki MV again?

Yes

Having the ability to add on security cameras to your existing Meraki network and adding in IOT while you're doing this is really top notch. These cameras would be well suited for small businesses that require security footage that can be easily accessed, anywhere at anytime. For a larger organization or a company that needs more robust security, this would be less appropriate, like a Casino, this would not be suited for that type of enviroment.
